Its quite an unusual way to introduce yourself by saying you have an alternator for sale.
I can understand advertising a business but if you are a boater it would make more sense to go via a more probable route like asking for advice or a simple introduction.
Just saying you have a secondhand alternator for sale does not give other posters much to go on.

Does one have to give one’s life story to do that?

I used to be on an similar forum but left because of all the bitchy/sarkie/know it all but no help comments (usually from people with the longest memberships) This is my first post and guess what?? same old same old. If you are not interested why waste your time and effort posting irrelevant comments? foxy has definitely made the most rubbish posts It's an art.

Our old engine oil went to a man last Friday to "help with starting his bonfire". I can see black skies. Still have to get rid of 12.5 litres of used engine coolant, and I'd like to dispose of it properly thus being kind to the environment and the planet we cherish. I have not succumbed to the temptation of pouring it down the nearest lavatory.

Sorry I didn't realise I had to give you my life story before I could post something boat related for sale on a boat related forum. My mistake. I concur.... It really boils my piss when someone is advertising something for sale and the so called 'senior posters & pretend experts' add disparaging, defamatory or just messages designed to deliberately sully the item for sale, I mean why???
If your not interested in buying the item, keep your expert opinions / bullshit to yourself!

Wow all this fuss and anxst! There are all types of boaters with all levels of budgets. I don't purport to know anything about boats but I know this alternator was working for 12 yes before I decided to upgrade my electrics and I thought someone may have a use for it. I replaced my Victron inverter and having the old one serviced ( with a 12 mth warranty) before I try to sell that so someone who can't afford £1000+ might be able/willing to buy it but I don't think I will bother on here. I have just given away a number of things on Free cycle and no one asked me for my inside leg measurement!!! Its a funny old world or maybe I am turning into Victor Meldrew!!!!! I can't believe that! 😉

Was it the Austrians or Krauts that used to sell antifeeze as white wine?

This is an eccentric sorta forum full of sweaty, sweary ole codgers and loverly ladies.. You don't have to post any personal detail if u don't want to..stop around a while and see how it goes..don't judge on Foxys postings they r rather unique to him.. Most of us fairly sane most of the time.. Threads have a tendency to weave on and off topic but its what gives this place its uniqueness ..we don't have a heavy moderator hammer but fellow posters are very good at letting miscreants know if they post really unsavoury stuff.. All those I have managed to meet from this forum are ACE individuals... Hope you sell the item..

Wow all this fuss and angst! No, we are just pulling your leg. I'm surprised it hasn't gone already, snaffled up by someone from here. In our case we had a new Czech 50amp (?) alternator put onto our refurbished engine 3.5 years ago, so I have no idea what we'd do with another, except as a mantlepiece ornament. I already have our old piston and two valves as ornaments on my bookshelf here at home. Of course you were right to have a go here - nothing ventured, nothing gained - but if there have been no offers from TB members, then it seems that eBay is the way to go nowadays. Fuss and angst we eat for breakfast, it's the evening meal you need beware of
