Batteries at 12.2v, measurement across alternator and hull the same, engine running at 14 revs, mppt controller says the same. Whats next to check please? Was your alternator working before you changed the batteries? I think that is the likely problem, have been nursing the batteries for a while in the hope to get where I wanted to be to finally sort the issue, all going well until last night/this morning and batteries down to 8 volts. Obviously a charging problem in my mind but don't know where to go from here.

That's rude if its not charging.
To quite a railway term you must have missed a connection somewhere.

If it had been working before, then I'd suggest that your check all the cables are in the correct/original positions and that all connections are tight. But that doesn't help really f you don't know if it was working correctly. You should have put Andrew to work and had him have a look. Do you have little lights on the ignition panel that come on when the ignition is on, then go off when the engine reaches a certain amount of revs? Belt tightness could be an issue, t be honest it's difficult to do like this remotely.

If you've got 14v at the alternator b+ it's working.
I wonder if you have an Albright spilt charge relay that has gone kuput?
Dirty way to get some juice into the battery - carefully attach a jump lead from the fat cable out of the alternator and bosh it onto your domestic batteries - you should now have alt output at the batteries, it's then a case of identifying why the juice isn't getting from the alt to the batteries.

I didn't realise you had a charging problem as when I came to drink more of your beer and give you a windlass you had the boat lit up inside like a Christmas tree!

Belt seems ok, not slipping that I can notice.
I know.

Something has happened between then and now - working out what that is is difficult for me.

Can you just remind me where I take the measurements from - in simple terms please.

There's usually more than one light, one is oil pressure and the other is a charging light. The charging light comes on, then goes off when charging. Anyway as gazza has mentioned have you got 14v at the back of the alternator?

It does sound odd. Its not related to the tunnel light is it? I think the switches were on the other side by the engine panel but when I was on the boat I sat on the hatch slide on the port side. Maybe I knocked something with my feet? Shame you are no longer local as I would pop round if you were. For more beer

Obviously you need the engine running for this. So be careful you don't get caught up in anything.
