I've always been intrigued by the idea that people living on boats may eventually be viewed by the public in a similar way to pikeys. There are increasing incidences of "pikey like" behaviour in the boat dwelling population. I have observed it over the years. It would be a great shame if this happened because living on boats is seen as a positive by most I believe. If it becomes viewed as a negative that is when regulations come in to make it more awkward. I tend to think people would not become abusive for no reason. Whilst I agree that there are more scruffy boats nowadays, I really disagree that people need a reason to be abusive. There seems a rapidly increasing number of people who appear to want to be nasty to others. They need no reason, they are just nasty. I’ve been verbally abused 3 times in the last couple of years, for absolutely no reason. Anyone a little different, like the boaters in the article have no chance of a peaceful life. It’s a sad state of affairs. It makes me ashamed of my country. Not just ashamed of your country... looking at this thread contributors, its the bigoted NHS migrants coming over from Europe, spreading their obnoxious piss n wind, that you should to be more ashamed of!

It seems more and more people seem to think it's okay to abuse people that are not like themselves.

"Many common infections can spread by airborne transmission at least in some cases, including: Anthrax (inhalational), Chickenpox, Influenza, Measles, Smallpox, Cryptococcosis, and Tuberculosis." And what the feck has that to do with the subject!

I see a boat with someone on it, that might need a bit of help. You could say the same of Prince Phillip in his new Range Rover. Help the Aged - oh no, that nasty Sun has blinded him! A lot of boaters are piss-takers, Prince Phillip is certainly a piss-taker too. Where does one draw the line? Blinded by the sun? Preferable to having your eyes cauterised by the Mail, repeatedly.

It was me who brought the rubbish into the thread. Sorry about that.
Let's get back to people randomly being abusive to others for no reason.
I have fortunately not had this problem.
The bloke having a go at me did have a reason it was not simply nastiness.
I guess my belief that people are inherently good probably comes from pessimism.

We've not been on the K&A since 2012, which is a good while back, and things can change. But the obvious live aboard boats made their own moorings, and the visitor moorings were almost always available. A C&RT guy told us there was an unofficial agreement that they would check the visitor moorings daily, but leave unrestricted moorings greater tolerance. Some smashing families living onboard. We met a couple of teachers who had a wide beam which they'd called Paneke following time spent in New Zealand (Maori word). They'd seen there was one already listed, but never expected to see it. Be careful foxy. I have a theory, that may be worth considering. Angry people only ever meet angry people ... miserable people only meet miserable people etc. I think we carry our own demons with us Rog

I don't see why some should be allowed to 'get away with it' - mental illness or not. We are allowed only 14 days mooring max 'at one place' - so why are others allowed to stay years on the same spot, where if we did the same CRT would remove our licence? Or do some other evil thing.
How about putting such 'case boats' into marinas such as Aqueduct (£90/week for a 40-footer) and let the wealthy hobnob with a pile-of-floating-rubbish? Yes, we all know their reaction.
I do have sympathy for the poor and ... well ... nutters ... but it seems bizarre just to let them sit there under a mountain of filthy junk. How about CRT sending someone along to help tidy up such boats? Isn't Richard parry keen on community work and 'well-being'? He'll do - the perfect representative of a caring recreational Charity.
It also makes a mockery of the BSS and insurance companies demanding hull surveys, when rusting hulks are left to disintegrate and sink. Better send a BSS chappie to these boats quick, to make sure they all have working CO alarms - because we'll FAIL our next BSS if we don't have one, and CRT will REFUSE to renew our licence if no valid BSS. What a pile of hypocritical old cobblers.

I wonder if we can arrange an 'unofficial agreement' with CRT that we won't need a BSS check next year and can keep £150 to ourselves. What the chances? (ps - know what you mean, of course, and wholeheartedly agree with "looking through one's fingers" when obviously a sensible thing to do) (pps - not angry at all - but paperwork to do, so back later )

Surely we hope C&RT won't be interested if the boat's legal (even with rubbish all over). Rog
