Just to add ... the stew was bloody brilliant (second day stew ) and the water pan's back on the stove with the kettle. I think the wind's finally easing too. Rog

Do you use disposable gloves and if so what type? I had a nasty rash on back of one hand a couple of years ago from diesel and cold wind. So now I use nitrile disposable gloves. Contributing to the plastic mountain Do other people do this and are there any vegetable alternatives ? Depends, black latex gloves as used by tattoo artist are good, but there are times when gloves take the feel away - as in other intimate situations...! Playing with a DPA pump is one of those situations, loosing the regulator spring and adjusting screw in the bilge is not an option. I try to look after my hands but it's not always possible. It would be fair to say I don't have Fairy soft hands! I'm the same but I have found myself wearing the nitrile surgical gloves when topping up the diesel in the day tank for my Refleks heater. Daily job. First time I've had oil heating and deliberately chose to install a small tank to avoid any problems in the event of regulator failure. I don't use gloves when working on engine or boating but it got me wondering if other people do

I'm going to have a tin of mackerel and some pasta.
The oil left in the tin is used as accelerant for lighting 'fire in t'morning.

Done a bit of poaching in my past, ferret and nets. Also used to pick up roadkill when on camping trips on the motorbike. The caravanners around were not amused by me skinning and gutting a bunny on a Sunday morning outside my tent. They were all eating bacon at the time mind you.

Now I live in a metal box floating in a ditch. No hens. How the mighty have fallen.

What more could you want. A Chicken Salad Butty.

That is a pretty good idea. As they are short boats about 19ft I could probably get two and raise pigs on the other one Eta the bacon butty just in case Jim was asleep

I'm permanently traumatised by ghosts milk as my mother kept them when I was tiny so even the faintest whiff of them is enough to make me feel queer. I wonder if any other livestock have been kept aboard canal boats.
