In Lincs we were surrounded by fields and many, many fluffy bunnies. Chris was happy to see them hopping around the lawn (We had half an acre) she was even quite happy for them to help themselves to stuff in the veggie patch but..... as soon as they started eating her roses Chris started frothing at the mouth and snarled "you're gonna have to get a gun" So a .22 was purchased and I would sit with the patio doors open and the gun on the coffee table in front of me. I got very proficient, could knock one over at 70yds. The meat wasn't wasted but I had to hang them in the garage and warn Chris not to come in the kitchen when I set to prepping them. I had to joint them and freeze them, the only way Chris could bring herself to eat them.. . they were no longer RABBITS but frozen meat! Phil

I recall a mate organising a rabbit shoot as he had lost 70 acres of winter wheat, that's a lot of wheat. Phil

I had rabbit pie on Monday for dinner delicious, I dont and wont kill anything for fun but to eat I will. On selection for an elite fighting force I carried a rabbit for the whole exercise even made a lead for it so it could hop around and eat food, at the end I gave it back unhurt, when asked why the answer was plenty of food around to eat without killing the rabbit, and live rabbit keeps longer than dead one.....................

Should mention the (borrowed) 3 bore shotgun was a converted Martini Henry single shot rifle ..... like the ones used at Rorke's Drift Bloody museum piece even back then. Great bit of engineering but it weighed a ton.

Ants had to carry a chicken around as part of his Marine training exercise and then 'kill' to eat..those who didn't went hungry.. Guess shooting rabbits better than mixy ..I couldn't though...

No one else shocked by the swan picture. The mess that made.
With that roof damage it might of possibly written that car off.

I had expected foxy to have done some shooting as he was brought up on a country estate. Yes, my dad had 3 guns - shotgun, rifle and something else, I don't know what it was. Just tin cans and milkbottles. I've blasted a few times. My friend in Virginia had 9 guns last time we visited, used her shotgun and Magnum hand gun. I get more satisfaction from working our boat along the canals, up and down locks, and the day coming to a successful conclusion, than I would from killing animals. Although I do believe many lying scum politicians deserve to be shot.

Sadly I've on many occasions had to do the deed with rabbits stricken with mixy, poor things wandering around bumping into things as they are totally blind due to eyes swollen and oozing pus,a dreadful disease, makes me very sad just talking about it. I always made sure I had a clean head shot, so very sad to see. Phil

Great for rats!

Ah now rats, that's a different story. We lived with a dyke passing under our garden it ran in a culvert, at each end of the garden the dyke existed as a deep V shaped channel. We were surrounded by fields and the rats were happily ensconced in the banks of the dykes. The little tinkers used to steal my chickens eggs and as not only did we eat them we sold them at the gate which paid for the girls food. The rats had to go!.I could knock a few off with my gun out if the window but not quick enough. So had a word with a gamekeeper mate and he loaned me a heavy Ali cylindrical container with the instruction to open it downwind and to wear rubber gloves. Right the plan was to pop a "pill" the size of a marble down a rat burrow and block the hole with a plastic bag of mud. The "pill" was Phostoxin which reacted with the moisture in the soil to produce phosgene gas. This worked a treat and saw the rats off for a long time. Phil

Phil Way to go, but not quite the same satisfaction as seeing them off with a pellet. I've got rid of them for the moment, 4 or 5 full/best part grown trapped and shot.

Great for rats! I met a bloke years ago who had a 410 on his boat. He used it occasionally to a scare away vermin. Unfortunately he included 2 legged types and one day his boat was raided by the armed police. He always kept it in the same place after 1995 (river Thame at Dorchester) as it was outside of the Thames license jurisdiction. Sadly for him he had problems with "subhumans" as he called them (scrotes). Anyway it turned out he had a shotgun license but it had expired so he did not get into much trouble but I think they took the gun away.
