As in the thread title ! - last Monday morning, the 25th, they kicked off at Nottingham County Court with a Directions Hearing in a now nearly three year old Claim against me - issued on April Fools day 2016 - for boat removal and an Injunction founded in their imagined and self-conferred powers to 'licence' boats exercising the common law right of navigation on the Trent Navigation and the other river waterways listed in Schedule 1 to the 1971 British Waterways Act.
According to the Costs Schedule they tried to put the wind up me with prior to the hearing, last Monday's proceedings set the C&RT - LAGS back something in excess of £5,000, which was rapidly followed up with the needlessly expensive process shown in this video clip :-
. . . . . . . . . by my reckoning that's topped well over £11,000 by the second working day of the week !
Any guesses as to what the running total will be up to by close of business tonight ?

I know nothing of this, but it certainly looks like overkill.

I think a brief synopsis is needed here, to let everyone know what this is about. In a nutshell, like, not the full 543 pages.
There have already been, here on Thunderboat, contrary opinions expressed already about "how things are supposed to be by Acts of Parliament, etc." and "how things really are and if you want to take CRT to Court you will need big bucks and be prepared to lose your house, wife and cat."
Issues need to be documented properly and calmly, and the finger firmly pointed at those who are guilty, they should be named, shamed and suitably punished.
Those in 'positions of power' can rake it all in with their scams and lies, but they will eventually run out of places to hide and be subject, one hopes, to the revenge they have garnered.

Looks like they are trying to make a point. I suppose if you visibly and effectively take action in an "over the top" way then other people become aware and are more likely to comply.
So even if you spend a lot of money on one enforcement it may be that you save on the others who may have followed the same behaviour pattern.

To reduce the costs they didn't hire a couple of huge Russian freight helicopters to lift this boat out off the drink.
This because they know that the boats owner will have to pay for all the costs involved in the removal of the boat, if he ever wants to get his boat back.
If you wouldn't know them any better, you could easily be mistaken by thinking that human beings are taking these decisions.
Peter.

Not necessarily, the RSPCA were heavily involved in political type court cases, this went on for years, 'till "the government" eventually stepped in to give them "advice" People move on in their careers, there will always be another senior position available for those with this background.

I tend to think with large organisations it becomes dehumanised anyway. It may be humans running it but the organisation itself (CRT) is a non human entity which can not have empathy or human type decision making.

Would that be one of these white ones that they needed after they'd had one of your previous well known treatments with a red-hot mooring pin ? Peter.

In my experience they tend to die pdq on retirement as their motivation is power through bully boy tactics, they quickly lose momentum, and die

"Move your feet!" (when vacuuming). "The car needs washing!". "The cat litter needs changing."
