Woof! Monster Rog If you like em big here is another for you - you can visit it by boat if you take a brave pill and head across the Fens 👍🍻 It's seriously worth a run up the Lark to the pumping engine museum, especially if you can make it on a running day, there is some wonderful kit there ..... and buy something or stick some money in the pot, they need and deserve all the help they can get !!! Made several visits there when I was exploring the Gt Ouse .... loved it

Driving voith Schneider cycloidal propellers. one at each end of a symmetrical vessel. Great equipment with amazing maneuverability. Now been replaced by some polish gear with electric pods. There must still be big diesels on there as well. Not sure what they did with the old ones but I was down there a couple of weeks ago and no sign of any of them. There were 3 of them. Looks like 2 to replace them. I'll be interested to go on it as a foot passenger to see what the manoeuvering is like.

Gazza said dogless is right - a diesel can sound nice. mouse must be half mutton thanks to these What, ehh, pardon! Had he warmed it properly and put it on the throttle stop, it would have made a glorious noise. They sound terrific under load. CIE buses in Ireland used to use the in line 6 version. This one is a little more active.

I used to have a 26 chevy superiot open tourer, four cylinder, it had the rockers on show as well, you used to oil up a felt pad and then drop a loose cover on it to stop dust getting in!! It left a trail of oil everywhere it went, and I drove all over the UK in it great vehicle

So reviving an old thread, because I have a lot of solar, the drive part of the solar can be switched to heat an immersion heater which this week has been producing gallons of hot water!! Tho joys of solar. At the moment I am ready to remove the electric motor as it has a high pitched squeal that starts after a few minutes, and the batteries for the motor have gone on holiday to the electric mega truck, they will be replaced with a higher voltage bigger battery bank shortly, so at the moment I am staying put until things are sorted out

Any idea what the squealing noise is?
Bearing? Overloaded motor?
Do you have a thermometer on the motor as well as the cutout?

Possibly but it might be something to do with the brushes if the motor is being loaded too much. I'd like to have a look at the condition of the commutator. Eta bearing in mind this from the OP " So this week we had the first trip on Joyce under electric power, for the technical maned I have used a 48 volt DC series motor its 12 inch in diameter and about 14 inches long, it has a cooling fan, it used to live in a large forklift truck as the drive motor I am running it at 70 volts with a curtis controller,..." I have had a stethoscope on it, its from the front of the motor, so its likely to be a bearing, strange though as they are sealed bearings and that end was the gearbox end so plenty of oil around if the seal had failed. The motor is also cooled by blower motor so never get more than hand hot, could be something expanding with heat and catching though so we will see when it taken apart

On the plus side whilst the boat is nt moving around the drive solar is connected to the immersion heater so I get free hot water from the sun!
