Disclaimer ............ eating raw bread gives you a belly ache. Indian chappatti should have two TT's imho.
One mug of brownish flour One smaller mug of white flour . one teaspoon of yeast in warm water with teaspoon of sugar, keep in the third mug till active. . . . sometime later, Find a bowl, add some salt [6 saltspoons approx] mix with flour and seven saltspoon of Bicarb. Mix it all up with buttermilk left over from tomorrow's recipe for butter making. Throw on to a greased and floured baking sheet, shape it to look like soda bread. Bake for 28 minutes. Scrape the bowl, there should be enough for one chappatti if you add some more flour, a splash of water and some salt.
Take the [empty] bowl, add a mug of strong flour to a mug of brown flour, plus some porridge oats and golden linseeds, and teaspoon of salt. Add yeast and warm water, mix, cover all round with olive oil, pop it in a polybag and leave in a cool place till tomorrow.

Blimey sounds like a lot of salt. Although I suppose it depends on how big a “saltspoon” is.

You can buy worktop cooker / oven / grills ......... electric, £40 to £80. My toaster has a grillplate option, ok for one person bacon and egg. Anyway, my skills need some updating, soda bread is still sulking in the oven............. I think I got my ingredients mixed up.

That is true, but I was making soda bread and also starting tomorrow's bread, so I had three or four different flours, and yeasts and baking soda and baking powder. I think the buttermilk is far too high in fat, it's not "real buttermilk", it's "cultured", which would be OK, but it's like custard, sweet and thick, and it should be watery thin. Plus the taste is very strong. I used to make butter at College [specialist subject] so I have only had experience of real buttermilk. Anyway, it's a disaster, but not so bad as to be totally inedible, I sometimes think it's better if it is. Anyway, I made a jackfruit curry which was a success. It's a strange type of fruit that looks like a meat once cooked.

To expensive to replace.

To expensive to replace. I've learned my lesson with the soda bread, just buy a packet of instant bread flour and add a tablespoon of natural yoghurt. The curry was easy, the jackfruit comes in a tin, add it to sauteed onions and spices, simmer for another 30 minutes.

I’ve been making soda bread recently very simple really. Use whole meal flour baking soda and instead of buttermilk I use half yogurt and milk which works well. Can make loaf in just over half hour.

Yes, my second effort was much better, just twice the size I wanted, I've been throwing chunks of it in to my fried lardons and mushroom breakfast, pretty good fried bread. Lasted all week.
