I was walking down the high st in Welling, Kent when, on a perfect blue-sky afternoon, I saw this huge black cloud in the sky. I remember just staring at it thinking WTF... another guy, a complete stranger, stopped and also was looking...we had no idea what it was but we agreed it wasn't a raincloud. Welling is about 40 miles away. It happened in the middle of the night I thought it was about 5 or 6am? It shook my bed in rural Suffolk - thought no more of it until my neighbour asked me if I'd felt it too...

Did the earth move for you metanoia ? I have no memory of the incident but googled Buncefield explosion ... apparently it happened at just after 6am and was felt for 40 miles around, and there were no fatalities. Rog

The incident's mention reminded me of Flixborough which was nearer to my home and sadly did involve 28 deaths. I was astounded that it was 1974 ... doesn't seem so long ago. Rog

That reminded me of the horrific Bosley Mill fire.
Mind you, you're lucky if you can get anywhere on the Macc just now, what with the ongoing Toddbrook situation and now Bollington closed. Sweet irony that Fools Nook swingbridge has finally broken in the open position though!

I did see that ... made me smile.
Wonder if it will hasten repair work more 😁

'four little ducks went swimming one day, over the hills and far away'
More blatant lies.
Firstly ducks don't swim because they are surface based wildfowl and secondly even if they did swim how are they going to swim over a hill? Did someone give them lessons on how to operate locks?
I was shocked.

I bought a stainless steel exhaust for the Cub. It was effing expensive. It had better chuffing well fit. But it wasn't the even more expensive option on offer from Japan which would be expensive to return if it didn't. Also the Japanese offering is through a seller called byebyegaijin. Gaijin means foreigner in English and this didn't inspire confidence. It isn't a replica of the original so it will obviously be a non-standard part. But a steel / chrome replica is easily obtainable if anybody doesn't like it when I sell the bike so I don't really mind. Also It is a two-part item, which is loads better than the one-piece original design. Shall I buy the Chinese clone 110cc 4-speed engine? More money...although the consensus is that the Chinese item is better than the Japanese original (in performance terms) mainly due to the better-spaced gear ratios. Quality is obviously not as good though. Too many choices.

General consensus of opinion seems to be that the Lifan engine isn't too bad if you have a Cub with a knackered engine beyond repair but you're better off sticking with the Honda engine if not.

General consensus of opinion seems to be that the Lifan engine isn't too bad if you have a Cub with a knackered engine beyond repair but you're better off sticking with the Honda engine if not. Not really, at least according to the dedicated forum. The small increase in HP and CC plus the 4-speed (instead of 3) apparently helps the humble club maintain real-world speeds; the admittedly low power output of the original means it can really struggle uphill. But who am I to argue with an expert? The thing about Chinese bikes is that the cycle parts are dogshit but the engines are ok; I have no doubts that it would be just fine. One guy reportedly did 2000+ miles on a European tour with no issues on an engine he put into it just before leaving; I imagine it got a proper hammering. This only leaves the real question of how mad do you have to be to cruise around the continent on a Cub? It may be better to preserve the original lump which can be re-fitted; and the Chinese engines are so cheap (£240 for a complete engine including wiring loom, carb and igniter) it can almost be regarded as a disposable item. Also the original engine in my bike has a problem with changing gear due to either worn gear selector forks or the 'dogs' which engage with the gear selector drum, or possibly both; apparently a common issue. The only cure is to split the crankcases and replace worn items. I don't mind doing that, and I have an entire original gear cluster assembly to do it with but it will take me a bit of time, not being a professional bike mechanic. TBH honest the one thing that puts doubt in my mind is the fact that the wiring loom on the Lifan is a tad different to the Honda (altering the original Honda loom in any way is a no-no) and I am in no way a wiring genius.
