It is necessary, as a matter of some urgency, to trace and contact the recent buyer of a boat named 'March Hare' (C&RT Index No 68691). Until last week the boat was held in storage on farmland at Dodleston, near Chester. The farmland is owned by the Proprietor and Managing Director, Brian Clarke, of a company trading as Commercial Boat Services.
Commercial Boat Services were instructed by the Canal & River Trust, subject to its powers under Section 8 of the British Waterways Act 1983, to remove 'March Hare' from the Kennet & Avon on 11 May 2023, and hold it in storage pending the resolution of a Pleasure Boat Licensing dispute with the boat's owner, Mr George Ward.
Commercial Boat Services have no right or lawful authority to sell 'March Hare', and the unauthorised sale of the boat last week amounts to theft under the applicable relevant Sections of the Theft Act 1968.
Commercial Boat Services were given until close of business on Monday 5 August 2024 to resolve this matter by way of formally cancelling the sale, and making proposals for appropriate restitution to the owner of 'March Hare', after which time in the absence of any such action on the part of Commercial Boat Services, last week's sale of 'March Hare' became a matter to be reported to the Police as theft.

Horrible afternoon and evening. I don't believe we could be further from the coast but a weird 'sea fret' sort of cloud descended on us at around 3pm and it's been wet and dreich ever since. Forecast suggests a sunny dry day tomorrow which sounds much more fun 🤞 Think we'll head up to Stoke Breune. The church and village of Grafton Regis is well worth a visit ... amazing how important a place can be and then how insignificant. That's history for you ... just one bloomin' thing after another. Moved into the basin at Stratford upon Avon. We had moored Wednesday night on the river here. Was a very strange mood in the town Wednesday night. Lots of people on edge and very quiet. Anyway, probably move up the canal this morning, though we both feel a little off, sore throats and headaches. Lots of little locks ahead, and the pie pub not so far away.

Hope you're not coming down with something.
It's a pretty canal but lots of locks.

Wind for the past 7 days has prevented any forays on the kayak. Alongside my walks I've busied myself tying up some fly patterns in the hope of conquering the ultimate salt water fly fishing challenge- the grey mullet. There are plenty in Fairbourne creek, across the water from here. High tide is at 12.00 so I'll position myself there around 10.00. It's unlikely that I'll succeed first time out, but hopefully I'll learn something of use for future trips.
I'm going to look to get a boat for next summer. The kayak is great and keeps me fit but I'm limited as to how far I can go. There are a couple of reefs 6-10 miles from here with loads of potential along with a couple of wrecks, it's just too far on the yak. So, a used 15-16ft either centre console or with cuddy, outboard around 40hp.
