Rog I think so, was just so relieved to finally get through the lock and not having had to share it with the 'lads' behind me that I didn't pay too much attention. Will have a wonder back in the morning...

Rain, rain and drizzle... the guys came back to have another go sorting out the shower.... hmm, on the basis that it has to look worse before it gets better, they've sorted....the first part. Took them 7 hours and they were a tad grumpy(maybe finishing at 7pm on a Friday night not quite what they planned for) Be back next week..or so they say.

I went back to work yesterday too. First time I've driven an articulated lorry for nearly six months and I always wonder if I'm going to have forgotten it all but of course you never do. I'm not sure if I'm going to stick with the job I've got, but I need a couple of weeks' wages to pay my mooring fee/permit due at the end of the month so I'll probably do at least that.
Leisure batteries on the boat appear to be shagged now, as there are only two of them and I have no solar to speak of they tend to get fairly well discharged and I never get much more than 250-300 cycles out of them. So that's another £240 to find.
Also checked my rubber gas pipe from the gas bottles, dated 2013 so overdue for replacement. I've shut the gas off and ordered a new length.
Starting to get dark noticeably earlier in the evening now.

I did intend to do this last Winter but my earnings were down on what I was expecting for various reasons so it was postponed. It is on the "to-do" list.

I’m planning on up grading mine soon, these modern ones are so efficient and cheap.

Walked up the track over bridge 85 to the little shop in Burston on the main road which is reopened and now also sells take-away drinks and food. They have a beautiful rear garden to sit in to eat/drink ... they sell all the basics including newspapers. A lovely quiet mooring ... The Greyhound and Dog and Doublet in walking distance in addition to Aston marina, and now a shop and somewhere to get a bacon butty and a coffee. My idea of heaven Rog

Rain..torrential rain and yep..more rain My dog sitting /child minding weekend going just great Old dog remains unwell so up 04:30 to ensure fed/medicated and short walk just in case the upset stomach carried on...there are a few meds to get down her...tablets, powders and paste. Down to edge of beach to collect grandson with the younger dog at 6am 1 hr 'play time' mine till 11am...got drenched walking back to daughters so then 'borrowed' son in laws shorts(couldn't find any of daughters clothes)..I'm sure I looked a wonderful fashion icon with white socks, black trainers, shorts rolled around at the waistband old t shirt and daughters old coat. Grandson stayed dry as i put his legs in a bin bag under plastic cover of buggy.....yes he could breathe...he kept telling me how dry he was. Midday Transported grandson to his house(he's back tomorrow) and got drenched again as left car at mine and walked up the hill Dogs are not being walked again... Do it all again tomorrow.... Does not take long for my time to be not mine.... Need another 6 2 month cruise or I just gotta get tough. Monday a puppy is added to the chaos... Meanwhile daughter sends a video of dolphins swimming next to the boat they are on, overhead blue skies.....

My cunning plan for our 2nd wood cage got twisted when we saw at the 'hardware store' yard they had some really decent palettes with the support made of real wood and not compressed sawdust - and 5 Euros each for three, and three for free. So we didn't need to buy planks and saw them all up, didn't need nails, didn't need four lengths of 4.6m thick beams of wood. We bought 12 'ingots' (blocks of concrete bubbles). I levelled the ground as much as I could with the old sand and turf from where it was dug up (old sand playpit), but thought it could do with levelling properly with sand/gravel and Pirkko thought if we ordered a load of gravel we can spread it over our drive also. So that's a job for next week, to order gravel. I could have carried on dismantling the old wood cage and erecting one end gate, but using the rake I got a blister, so work stops. Bringing that lot back from the hardware store reminded us again that the trailer has been paying for itself - bought it around 12 years ago. The palettes are the same width as the gates.

"Hose integrity Check any flexible hoses for cracks or degraded parts. Even if undamaged, they should be replaced five years after date of manufacture – this is printed on rubber hoses and stamped on armoured ones. This should be checked annually." What - you should check to make sure the stamp/printing is still on the hose every year ?? www.pbo.co.uk/expert-advice/check-your-boats-gas-system-19785 Bring sausages!

Is that bar/cafe still there (The Lock Inn ?) ... we had a monsterous fried breakfast there ... I couldn't eat all mine but Jane finished hers and then ate the scallop potatoes I'd left You can take the girl out of Yorkshire ... Rog Its still there. Would highly recommend it too. We like mooring just passed the lock. Relatively quiet but right next to a park for the kids to run riot in. But from the VM right up to the aqueduct is full of Nicks mates.

Lovely pub, newly 'done up' inside (during the lock-down) and lovely outside seating. We walked to the marina at Aston and back, and then walked up to the Greyhound at Burston ... so the Stafford breweries 'Peregrine bitter' was utterly stunning ... and they accepted cash, were cheerful, good humoured and had sensible virus arrangements without being OTT. Rog PS Just booked for Sunday lunch tomorrow
