Hi John, Is your heating a "conventional" boiler? If it has a standard pressure jet burner, the fault is indicative of a failed solenoid on the oil pump. To check, if it's a danfoss pump, get your multimeter ready, run it up to lockout, then pull the plug out of the coil and check for open circuit across the live and neutral terminals. What make of burner is it? was indeed the solenoid on the oil pump ...... works fine at the start but as it warms up it goes o/c ...... a few seconds off, it starts operating again.
Was the suggestion of Terry at Bubble as well ...... changed nozzle (which was well overdue for changing anyway) and the solenoid. Now working fine !!!
Thanks for the tip, Bubble/Harworth heating are a small familly firm and are very free with advice and tips on their products to any owner that is doing their own servicing or maintenance but If they had not been your tip would have been extremely valuable !!! so again many thanks ........ I drove to Harworth to get the bits (I know I could have got the solenoid at a Plumbase or the like but the nozzle they use is not as easily available)
Hot shower !!! bliss !!! ....... don't know what to do about the immersion, I don't have a good success record with changing immersion heaters without damaging the tank (especially when they have been in as long as this one) plus it involves removing half the corridor wall to get to it easily ....... I have so many other jobs on the round tuit list that have a higher priority, like the saloon floor which needs completing so I can re-build my furniture and get it out of the fwd cabin which will allow me to get the floor up there so that the 3 tons of ballast on the deck can go in there to clear the space on the deck for the hiab to be mounted which I can then use to crane out the old Rayburn which is well past sell by date and replace it with another stove that has been sitting in a store for 18 months which will then let me change the plumbing round to increase it's efficiency which means I can then ......................... sob !!! retirement !!! sob sob I thought that meant I could take things easy

Well here we are - tied up for a month in Stretford marina as visitors - gonna sort out a 28 day license with the peel once the free period expires.
Of course in true 'Ellis' style, Manchester is about to be in Tier 3... I'd better go and get a haircut today incase they all close again
hmmmf
eta It's wet and miserable!!!

Manchester into the top tier, as is South Yorkshire from Saturday ... and the suggestion is West Yorkshire will be also in a week or so.
I'm fascinated to see what difference this 'top tier' allocation actually makes to the community ... I wonder if the likely outcome is that ALL pubs suddenly start selling 'substantial meals' so they can stay open.

Rog If they dont sell food already I would think they would need a license have the premises inspected etc etc

Dark now when I get up at 7am ... that'll change next Sunday when the clocks go back. The nights close in as the turn of the year approaches at an alarming rate ... I'm sure it doesn't seem to happen so clumsily when we're on the boat ... in the house I suppose we're more detached from natural light ... a bit like being daylight for walking, but jump in a car and you turn the headlights on. The forecast seems to be fairly mild for the next couple of weeks ... hope you hardy all year boaters are getting ready for 'winter draws on' Rog Winter is a sad place for us(I) night workers. Get home in the dark and wake up to only a couple of hours sunlight. Talking of nightworkers, anyone heard from Andyburg lately.

Soon be spring At least in winter it's easier to sleep off nights as it rarely gets too bright ... being on nights and trying to sleep in bright sunshine was always tough. I'm very thankful those shift working days are long behind me, and work of any sort is just a twelve week 'hobby'. Getting old isn't all bad news ... I finally find out this month "will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I'm ..." Andyberg has been quiet of late ... hope he's not got stuck in a hedge somewhere Rog

it's already gotten lighter in "Ellis" - I peeled off the Mirror film yesterday which has brightened things up lots.... DESPITE Manchester's best attempts at persisting down all day by the looks of things ... oh well, inside jobs it is then or maybe last years tax return. hmmmf

Usually about 4 days to notice it which is why there is a yearly celebration
