First rule - turn the fuel off … you will still lose up to a precious litre but you can catch that to save the engine 'ole….. Yes, but our return pipe is higher than the filter, and there is no tap/valve on that. I have asked for one to be put on, but it hasn't happened. Remind me in June how it went Anyway, to bed now, after watching the remains of the movie Batman vs Superman which I find to be.... well... complete crap. Jeremy irons is in it, that's the only good thing. I like Jeremy Irons.

What day is it? We had world book day and international women's day but I'm unaware of what day it has been today. International Hedgehog Day, I said already.

Barbie dolls are a horrible phenomenon. My daughters have been given them in the past by naff relatives but we destroy them as fast as possible. Nasty things based on a German sex doll for adults. I like kids playing with toys I know they like dolls but Barbie no thanks. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bild_Lilli_doll

Totally agree - hence you'll see I made reference to "its birthday".
I was given a Barbie doll as a child - its hair "grew" - until I chopped it off every time you pushed the sprout button - I was mortified when it didn't come back again.
I much preferred my Corgi driving school car with the big red button on the top which let you control the wheels.

I would be surprised if the "Buhk" impeller really is a Bukh impeller, as it's more likely to have been made by Jabsco or Johnson, and only put into a Bukh box to sell it for twice the price. I've made a note and will follow this up. Have a look here youngman Ross www.asap-supplies.com/engine-spares-gearboxes/engine-spare-parts/bukh-engine-parts/spares-for-bukh-dv10There are of course plenty of other (and maybe even cheaper) suppliers too, but this is only to show you that there's no need to get the "genuine" Bukh parts, as in most cases for stuff like this, you're paying through the nose for a Bukh box, with a part that you can buy (almost) anywhere for 50% or less of the Bukh price. Peter.

Thanks Peter - note made. I can't remember how much the water pump impeller cost - bought it last May from TW Marine - I'll have the bill somewhere amongst the paperwork. The impellers on the asap site £24 / £20 - I can't imagine we paid more than that for the 'Bukh' impeller. Fitted it last June. I was thinking of buying, say, two more, and sticking one in this June. We'll have a rental car early June so will probably nip up to TW in Furness Vale for some spare bits and a quick chat - they're the chaps who renovated our engine 4 years ago. Always good to have background info about everything.

Always good to have background info about everything. As I wrote Ross, there are surely cheaper suppliers, and while having a look, I found one in the Netherlands of which many people seem to have nothing but good experiences with, and they are quite a lot cheaper than ASAP e.a. less than € 15 for an impeller www.dedieseldokter.nl/a-50694595/bukh-service-sets/bukh-dv10m-en-bukh-dv20m-service-set-impelleras-12mm/ for a pump with 12 mm shaft + service set. or www.dedieseldokter.nl/a-50694685/bukh-service-sets/bukh-dv10-en-bukh-dv20-service-set-impelleras-9-5mm/ for a service set with a 9.5mm shaft If you only want an impeller www.dedieseldokter.nl/a-51413505/bukh-impellers/bukh-dv10-en-bukh-dv20-impeller-610g0092/ You probably know if you need a 12mm or a 9.5mm one, if you don't know you can see it by looking at the plate that closes your pump, the 12mm one has 4 screws and the 9.5mm one has 6 screws. You may find that your impeller has made a deep groove in the plate, and in that case you better buy a new plate too, or maybe give your pump a complete overhaul with some new seals too, they're not expensive and will give your pump a new lease of life. I'm sure that you can find a place in the UK that is as cheap as the place in the Netherlands, but if not, you can always add some money on TW's bank account . Peter.

I roughly remember that parts were two thirds of the cost, and their labour was one third. Usually if you go to a car garage, the labour is more than the cost of the parts. It was done over 4.5 months as a 'side job' The final cost was difficult to work out (and wouldn't make much sense if I tried to explain - or it would take a long time to tell what happened from start to finish), but I am quite happy at what we paid. No complaints at all, in fact I feel they may have undercharged us, and I feel a bit guilty if they have. We did say they're free to borrow our boat, at no charge, if they like, and that still holds.

New (improved version) water pump stuck on in May 2015 during engine renovation. We shall probably nip in to TW this June, and I should make a list of things to ask of what we should be checking for, or what issues are liable to come up with this engine-gearbox-aquadrive. I'm not expecting anything to happen/go wrong in the near future. The only slight concern I have had is a delay in the propeller kicking, after engaging forwards gear. Clutch slip? Clutch does not seem to slip when accelerating, not at all. This has happened a few times, but not on our last trip. I did notice, when we arrived at the boat and I checked the oil levels in daylight next morning, that the gearbox oil (when cold) was only half-way on the dipstick, so threw in some more oil. Let's just pretend it was that

The anodes were put on July 2016, I reckon they're still OK, or I might sand them to expose fresh metal. I think we are still on top of this all, but a lot of effort has gone into making what we have today. I'm expecting our Summer trip to be plain sailing; it's going to be a long trip. I should change the fuel filters (2) myself - not done that before - and perhaps the water pump impeller. Can't think of anything else that needs doing. <iframe width="20.879999999999995" height="3.8799999999999955" style="position: absolute; width: 20.879999999999995px; height: 3.8799999999999955px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none;left: 15px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT1_59233678" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="20.879999999999995" height="3.8799999999999955" style="position: absolute; width: 20.88px; height: 3.88px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 987px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT1_6060975" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="20.879999999999995" height="3.8799999999999955" style="position: absolute; width: 20.88px; height: 3.88px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 15px; top: 134px;" id="MoatPxIOPT1_17844065" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="20.879999999999995" height="3.8799999999999955" style="position: absolute; width: 20.88px; height: 3.88px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 987px; top: 134px;" id="MoatPxIOPT1_98594687" scrolling="no"></iframe> If you have an impeller (Jabsco type) cooling pump on your engine, you need to carry at least one spare impeller. They're made of Neoprene and when they've been in service for a good while the vanes tend to crack and fall off due to the constant flexing, . . and they always do it at the most inconvenient moment. If you've had two or three years out of the existing impeller, then fit a new one and keep the old one as a stand-by spare. Old used/worn ones with a permanent slight 'set' to the vanes are easier/quicker to fit, especially when you're drifting towards a weir, but they must also be re-fitted the same way round as before so as not to over stress and bend the vanes the other way when, or if, they're put back into service. Are you not surprised to learn foxy does carry a spare. Good advice though thanks
