Our boat has both satellite and aerial fitted. Have always used the sat as I’d never found the cable from the aerial. Not been a problem as I’m used to sat tv anyway. Anyway, I’ve found the cable that runs from the aerial. Tested it and it works. Can I connect both the aerial and sat cable into a splitter type connector and then run the single cable from this to a tv? Would this work and be just a case of selecting satellite or aerial signal on the tv. Tv has built in freesat and freeview. Another thing I discovered today is that with the freeview selected if I hold my finger to the end of a cable connected to the tv aerial socket I get a picture. Does this mean I am acting as a tv aerial?

The sat cable has voltages on it to control the LNB on the dish. they would be shorted out by the TV aerial so sat wont work and freesat tuner would be damaged.

Does this mean I am acting as a tv aerial? My Avtex telly has separate connections for sat dish and freeview antenna as it has seperate tuners. I would expect this to be normal situation with most similar tvs. Also, I think a voltage is supplied to the sat dish LNB from the tv so don't think you could link the two feed cables externally. ETA Loddon beat me to it 😀

I don't understand your answers ... but I prefer both to stabby's rubbish joke. Rog Sat cable has power running through it, an aerial cable doesn't. That's the crux of it.

So I need to run seperate cables or change them over at the junction box. Much appreciated, probably saved me a tv.

It would be ok to run separate cables and have both connected to each tv connection?

It would be ok to run separate cables and have both connected to each tv connection? I can safely say yes they can both be connected to the same TV. Is there channels the sat wont get that an aerial will.

It’s making me think to much. Thanks for your help.
