I'm pretty sure I need a new thermocouple fitting to my (very old) Electrolux gas fridge. Does anyone know anyone in the north east Cheshire area who might be able to do this? Cheers.

Typically the thermocouple clips on or is held on by one screw at the flame end, and by a nut at the control valve end.

Thanks for the replies. I've had a quick look on youtube. Can't find anything specific to my fridge but enough to make me think I'll have a go at it. I've seen 'universal thermocouplers' on Ebay for just a few quid but wondering if they really are universal, or if the fittings differ from appliance to appliance? Also they come in different lengths. If I buy one that's longer than the existing (very likely, mine is short) can I simply curl up the excess and find a home for it somewhere where there's a bit of space?

They are much of a muchness in all respects except the screw fitting at the valve end. For gas boilers they are pretty standard but for fridges I am less sure. Can you not find the known right part on the Internet? the tubing is soft and yes you can curl it up out of the way somewhere. Just avoid kinking it. In my experience buying a cheapo thermocouple can be a false economy as they don’t last long. An original part will be worth the extra IMO.

If buying a universal, you are unlikely to get a small nut to fit the valve. Look for a 'Gas Fire' or Super universal. If too long, it is acceptable to coil up the excess.
