From the picture Tony mentioned it appears one of the bars has already been replaced. The one further away in the image. I wonder why they didn't do both at the same time rather than waiting for the second one to become dangerous.

It would appear that CRT only do Justin maintenance.......
Tony - I'm absolutely certain that Foxglove won't fit under that airdraft!!!

Tony - I'm absolutely certain that Foxglove won't fit under that airdraft!!! I'll go along with that ! I think my memory must be playing tricks on me, but I was, and still am sure that at least one or more of the opening bridges between Thorne and Keadby has got a good bit more room under it when it's 'on' than all the others. It's just unfortunate that it isn't the one that's bust !

On our way east to Keadby heading for a 1pm deadline we came across a failed bridge. The man came out to fix it, it shared its power with an adjacent railway crossing. He then told us to go flat out, drove ahead of us and had every bridge to Keadby open and ready for us. We got there with 15 mins to spare, just enough to swap the fuel cans around and into the lock. First we saw of the Trent was when the gates opened.

I will update TB with any further news from C&RT at Leeds as soon as I have it. The phone call and/or e-mail, promised this morning by C&RT in Leeds for sometime this afternoon, with a time estimate for having a new hanger bar/link made for and fitted to Wykewell End Lift Bridge didn't materialize. They did, however, sent a text message to my phone at 1609 hrs today and this is (precisely as written) what as says :- "Thank you for contacting the Canal & River Trust Customer Service Team we'd be very grateful if you'd to rate our service by replying to the following messagesSender CRTMessage centre:+447958879860Sent:21-Mar-201916-09-50"I still await the "following messages", . . and my shock and disappointment goes beyond what mere words can express ! If I can bring myself to do it, I will stop holding my breath and speak with them again in the morning !

Has Mr Stabby been made aware of this bridge problem?

Has Mr Stabby been made aware of this bridge problem? It's not beyond the realms of possibility that he is the cause of it ! He is known to have left his mooring heading North last week, and a few days and several alternator/water pump belt adjustments later he admitted to being tied up on the Alrewas side of Fradley Turn. As far as I know, little or nothing has been heard of his whereabouts since then, so he could possibly have sneaked onto the Trent from there and had enough luck to get as far as Keadby without clouting any of the selection of huge, wide span bridges on the river before mounting an all out assault on Wykewell End Lift Bridge. Who knows, . . only time, and perhaps the towpath telegraph, will tell !

I can happily report that the engine is running well so I have felt no need to remove it and place it on the stern deck for three weeks in the hope that it might mend itself while I scrutinise the CRT overstay notices.
