Are we taking bets as to whether Welly's boat will sink in the Humber?

Are we taking bets as to whether Welly's boat will sink in the Humber? Bloody hell, don't jinx it! I think it more likely that we will founder in the Wash!! Just been on to (allegedly) Newark on 0303 040 4040 to book through Torksey and Grand Sluice No 3 - delightful young lady assured me that Torksey will open for us on Sunday/Monday, but asked me to confirm whether Grand Sluice was on the Trent!??! Turns out she's in Wrexham, an her geography isn't that good!!

To be fair, everybody can't know everything. 6 years ago I had never heard of Kinver, Tuel Lane, or Foxton Locks, nor Brinklow Tunnel.

You're not going to chicken out are you? I was looking forwards to seeing "Narrowboat sinks in River Humber" in the Daily Mail. And I have 50p riding on it.

Your too afraid to even venture onto the Trent. Where have you got that from? Have you missed all my comments about our plans to go down the Trent after 2 years lurking in Fenland? 2020: from Newbury to Bath & Bristol and then back to Reading and the Thames, over London and up the Stort and Lea. Christmas 2020 through London and up the Grand Union, knocking on Jenlyn's boat at 3am with my face pressed against a window. 2021: into the swamps of the web-feeted ones. No plan/route yet, but I think we should indulge in 2 years 'below sea level'. I hope Phil is still around then, he could come for a ride on our boat? Gazza on call-out for changing our fuel filters and other mucky jobs. 2022: still in Bedford-Ely-Cambridge area 2023: time to piss off elsewhere, and 'doing the Trent' looks like an adventure. But where to then? Sheffield? Back to Sowerby Bridge? Even for me that's too far to think & plot & plan.

We have held true to our plans for the past 5 years, although we have had to adapt them a bit mainly due to the Great Calderdale Flood of Boxing Day 2015 - incidentally, in which we were the only boat on the move right at the time of the torrential rain and Calder bursting through stone walls into the Rochdale Canal. No-one else can say that. Our moment of fame.
