My partner took the boat in for blacking this week but said the shower pump was not working. Being a bit more ' hands on' I tried to go through a fault finding exercise over the phone but to no avail. We are picking the boat up tomorrow an I am hoping I can diagnose and repair it but if not can anyone suggest a reasonably priced replacement or stockist? The current model is a Jabsco. Thanks

hang on a moment though guys ...... is that not pumping away the waste ..... or not getting water through the shower head ? It’s a pump. They say you shouldn’t use it for diesel. TBH, I have one to evacuate the shower and thought I’d fitted one for the water pump, but just looked and realised I’d changed the old unsureflow pump to a Jabsco (which I think is better in my opinion).

they're not much good for a water feed pump as it's not a smooth delivery and after a while the valves leak a bit so they can back flow.
edit for clarity .... that's the gulper (or the Jabsco equivalent)

My water feed pump is a Jabsco (can't remember which model) and the waste pump for the shower drain a Whale Gulper. When the drain pump for my grey water (galley) waste packed in (Whale Gulper) I replaced with a Jabsco diaphragm waste pump, almost identical construction .... the only reason for the change of make was rapid availability.
The Whale had lasted about 8/9 years

My shower is a domestic Bristan thermostatic which works directly from the water feeds. It is the pump that discharges the waste water which has the problem. I will know more tomorrow when I get there.

Apologies in advance as this may be a dumb question but as I said I only need the pump to discharge the waste water out through a skin fitting which is approx 18 - 24 ins above the drain. On eBay there is a 12v self priming high pressure (160 psi) diaphragm pump that discharges 8Lpm @ 100w. Am I stupid or should this work?

Your OP mentioned ‘shower pump’ but now you have clarified by saying it’s for waste water. A shower pump could easily be interpreted as the pump which supplies your shower/tap water. I can recommend the Whale Gulper after all then.

Ours is a Johnson Viking 16 diaphragm pump. Twice now it has stopped pumping out but still makes the correct noises. Both times if has been a bit of plastic, the first time it had gone through both inlet and outlet non return valves and jammed in an elbow where it went up to the skin fitting, second time, several years later, the bit of plastic was jammed in one of the valves.
Bugger to get to though.

Now sorted. The switch was a bit corroded so I cleaned it up and put new connections on the wires, now working perfectly!!
