I think it's aesthetics are ....... bleedin awful (my pet hate is ex working boats with a chicken shed built on top)
but it is someones (presumably) pride and joy, that has a legal BSS and also presumably insurance and is therefore entitled to have a licence.

More and more I hear CRT refer to the system as "our canals", as if they actually own them. They have convinced themselves and are now looking to convince everyone else.

I'm not sure we've got the full story yet. There has been given no explanation as to why CRT deems the boat unsafe.

Just another opportunity which CRT (management) have found to divide us all. I’m sure this guy is doing no harm to anyone (unless he’s being used as a stooge), but the intent I’m seeing from CRT at a very vulnerable time in this country is blinding. It will be remembered I’m sure.

I would have thought they would need a full surveyors report to determine if it was in dangerous ie in imminent danger of capsizing or sinking What of all the boats we've ALREADY seen that are sunk, or half-sunk, or certainly look like they are almost rusted through and about to go down - CRT seem perfectly happy with those, eh? I'd say it's because the man has a funny foreign name, nothing more.

I would have thought the only way they could introduce this would be to demand all boats have a full survey. (in the same way that Insurers demand one for fully com) I would have thought that boat owners having an extra £1k stuck on their costs every 3 years or so would cause absolute outrage .... even among the CRT supporters and the cba's answer to Andrews post I dislike the BS scheme enormously. I think it's OK for some things, such as checking the gas systems and obvious dangers - but CO alarms are nobody's business apart from those who live on the boats - will a BSS man be coming round to see if people are using contraception correctly? And the ventilation measuring is meaningless. Also, why not £30 for an inspection - £160 is too much.

I think it's aesthetics are ....... bleedin awful At least he hasn't covered the adjacent towpath with all kind of junk and scrap. I don't know, might be an interesting boat, live and let live and all that.

We failed our last BSS because our frying pan had a scratch on its non-stick surface and there was a danger of us getting Teflon poisoning.

Are they going to far or is it unsafe? Well, it certainly hurts my eyes.

So the topic is about whether eastern Europeans have a right to use UK canal towpaths for residing in large volume non conventional semi static vessels. And anyone else of course. I wonder if this man has a house back home ? Me thinks so.

It just needs Andyberg to scumble paint it, add a few roses and castles, job sorted.

The thing is, you can never quite believe the NBTA, who have a habit of overlooking pertinent facts if they do not fit in with their agenda. Could it possibly be that the owner is facing enforcement action because the boat has not moved from the same spot for 18 months, for example?
I'm not saying that this is the case, but it is exactly the type of scenario where NBTA would generally opt to be "economical with the truth".
