Well, I started burning this today and it truly is disgusting stuff. The photo below (which was taken after it had been alight for some 45 minutes) doesn't really convey the sheer horror of it. Acrid yellow smoke belching out of the chimney, steering the boat I felt like Hymie Rosenburg on a day trip to Auschwitz. I really don't know why a BWML marina would actually sell this shit. On the plus side, it does seem to burn very hot but I wouldn't buy it through choice again. Is that anthracite? No, it's some type of pre-formed oval. I thought anthracite was clean burning?

Is that anthracite? anthracite doesn't light easily but burns with very little smoke .... it is an approved fuel for use in smoke controll areas .... it wouldn't be marked not for use etc,

Sometimes it's a bit smoky, and always sooty as hell. Good heat though. I wouldn't use it in a cast iron stove.

Last years is fantastic burns clean, hot, smokeless and no soot, 2 years ago I had some shite that made the sky go black and the Rayburn needed cleaning out weekly

We've burnt anthracite for the last 3 years and love the stuff. Struggled with it to start with but I dug out the instructions for the stove (Aarrow fires Next in Bunny) and it gave guidelines on how to burn the stuff and we've never looked back. Gives off plenty of heat and we haven't had to sweep the chimney/flue in all that time and very rarely have to clean the stove glass. It only smokes when we first light it!

Spent last week up the Ashby. One morning, when I got up, the cabin temperature was 31C with just a very faint glow still in the stove. Can't remember what coal I was using but it sure as hell burnt too hot for a 40ft boat.
