"The London Marathon. For days London has been on lockdown . Climate change twats have been glueing themselves to Jeremy Corbyns fence … Emma Thompson has been shitting tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere on her transatlantic flights. Many cross words have been spoken by school children about the dangers of plastic. Ordinary working people have been massively inconvenienced. Then the climate change twats all bugger off just in time for a load of skinny dead-eyed horse-faced twats to run rampage through London dropping plastic bottles all over the place!" "I wonder how many of these runners are climate change twats from the week before? One minute they moan about polluting the world with plastic, and then freely throw empty plastic water bottles and sweaty snot rags along the 26 mile route!" Guess who's stealing water bottles? "The man behind the camera who filmed the theft said: “I find it absolutely disgusting, absolutely appalling. I don’t know why they would do that. Why would you go crazy – like animals – and steal all the water? I think it’s absolutely vile behaviour.” www.thesun.co.uk/archives/news/1143056/outrage-as-thieves-are-filmed-snatching-bottles-of-water-left-for-london-marathon-runners/

as has been said before, after a properly organised event all the litter will be promptly cleared up. 'tis the casual bottle/can thrower in the local woodland park that pisses me off..... why bother to go to a pleasant rural location, only to despoil it with your litter? in the park where I exercise the badgers dogs every day there are/were about a dozen substantial wooden benches made out of sleepers...... most of them have been destroyed or badly damaged by folk who use them to support their portable barbecue which causes them to smoulder all night, leaving a burnt or unusable piece of park furniture that probably cost £1000 to install.

There's a deposit on them in Finland and they are recycled - even this morning I stopped my bus outside the S-Market in our village to insert a dozen plastic bottles into the machine that slices'n'dices 'em and got 3.40 Euros in coins into my hand. The thing is, genuine action to counter climate change would take far, far more than a few bottle shredding machines and a windmill here and there. For example, the car manufacturers of the world could say "We're not going to build any more new cars. We can keep the ones we've already got running for hundreds of years if we get over the idea of scrapping cars because they need two new tyres for the MOT". Ditto fridges, television sets etc etc etc. But it's just not going to happen. The type of consumption pattern we have now is in our DNA. If you asked any of these activists what their medium-term plans are, they would say "To get a good degree and a well-paying job". Well-paying so they can spend a lifetime buying new cars and fridges and television sets etc etc etc...

Exactly.
Its actually rather unusual for people to deliberately choose to be low consumers. There is some sort of manic drive to consume.
I've always been amazed by the amount of money people spend on cars. Its completely ridiculous to be paying dozens of thousands for a car. Totally bonkers and perfectly good motors get binned constantly.
The whole things screwed !

I agree with Stabbers. I just like to see the hypocrites shown up.
Where is Metanoia's 'compassion'? Go to that scruffy boat and offer to take those bags of smelly rubbish adorning it to the tip, for instance.
I also scoff at 'recycling' as I reckon 99.9% just gets chucked into a pit, like an old coal mine or quarry, or dumped at sea.
I'm shocked at the amount of plastic we chuck in the bins every day - most of it food packaging. An inefficient use of oil. How about all those suitcases and strollers and backpacks at the airports all wrapped in plastic, which just gets put in the nearest bin at the destination airport!

The problem isn't the plastic packaging itself it is the way food product distribution has changed over the years.
The rise of huge supermarkets and remote storage depots to serve them and food products coming from thousands of miles away means the thing is no longer a food product it is a profit generating item with a finite useful life. Wrapping it in Plastic will extend its life a bit = $$$.
Its like the tetra pack juice boxes. They are actually eco friendly on a big scale because of the way the system is arranged.
Its all a bit ridiculous really.
As for recycling that is simply a way to get a volunteer workforce to separate potentially valuable materials from the waste stream. And they feel good about working for free ! Win win situation

Win win situation Whilst I agree with the general Idea expressed in the statement. I don't think the workforce are "volunteers" they are coerced into working for free, because if you don't sort your waste they want take it away.

How many places have obligatory waste sorting? I've never come across it.
The bins we use at the mooring are occasionally "policed" by irritating flat dwellers but the bin men take it regardless of what is inside the bins.
There are recycling and non recycling bins but you can use the non recycling bins for recyclable items. I sometimes deposit empty beer cans in the non recyclable bin out of devilment.
Recycling is a scam devised by people who make money selling scrap metal and bins.

Most councils enforce mandortory waste sorting by using the coloured bin system, yes they refuse to take them if you don't sort it. They even refuse to take your rubbish ever if you keep not sorting it out.i presume your bins are collected by biffa or some other private waste collection service as you are on a cart mooring? Biffa seems to be carts preferred contractor for these things.

When crt put in the moorings they got agreement with developers of a block of flats alongside the mooring to use their bins. It is council and yes the bins are different colours.
They are large wheeled aluminium bins so quite difficult to check what's in them.
They do occasionally refuse to take trade type waste but do not require strict separation.

I suppose in that situation, multiple occupancy it's difficult to appoint blame for any particular pieces of rubbish. But I assure you most councils out of London will refuse to take your bins if you don't sort your rubbish. They send nasty officials around to tell you off, if your a persistent offender..

I recycle what I can, I take my own containers to put fruit etc in in a local green grocers... Normally take all my own rubbish to the tip so that i can ensure it goes where it should ..but I do not make a special trip for this, I save up all I have to do and go out once. OK so I have made errors ref new car but that is because as a solo woman with zilch car knowledge I have to know what Im driving is gonna get me from a to b..normally now I walk everywhere local..what cannot get from local shops I don't have. So I guess in a few years I can probably let the car go.. I am trying very hard to do what i can..ok so its not much but if everyone followed similar path the collective benefit would mount. Its easy to say it makes no difference so I won't bother..its easy to ditch rubbish anywhere with the excuse councils don't bother so why should I? It takes effort to attempt to make a difference... I am bothered about the trips away I have booked but they all have deposits paid and post these I will think very carefully where to go... Its all about balance. I want to enjoy life but I want to know that future generations will also have the opportunity to enjoy life.

How many places have obligatory waste sorting? I've never come across it. Northamtonshire is ALL recycling in one wheelie bin, rubbish in the other, collected alternate weeks, with a food caddy collected weekly. Devon is one bin for glass, one for plastic and tins, a reusable bag for paper, a reusable bag for cardboard none of which have lids so on a windy day and a food bin collected weekly. Black plastic sacks for rubbish collected every other week, we are less than a third of a mile from the estuary the shytalks love it.
