How many people with mental issues will wander down to the water, with CRT's encouragement, and decide to throw themselves in and drown?

How many people with mental issues will wander down to the water, with CRT's encouragement, and decide to throw themselves in and drown? 2? I can categorically tell you that if I hadn’t have chosen this lifestyle 7 years ago I would probably have lost the plot mentally. It pretty much saved my life. I think there is much truth in CRT’s ‘well being’ argument. Those like me who have suffered from depression in the past will tell you how therapeutic a walk in the countryside is (especially near water). Sadly I think Jenlyn is right. It does seem as though the ‘well being’ card is being used as a PR stunt to gain public support. As a CC’er liveaboard my biggest stress is trying to avoid being mistakingly being put on CRT’s enforcement radar due to their faulty logging system and signage which is not backed by law. CRT’s lack of providing reassurance about these kind of stories (keep everyone guessing) also adds to stress. So yes, in principle the ‘well being’ initiative is fine, so long as they also apply it to boaters.

CRT have just made redundant their most experienced canal manager in the South east and moved their most experienced canal manager in the West Midlands to "Cultural Affairs". Taking people with all that knowledge and experience in actually keeping the canals open, off the canals altogether and replacing them with people experienced in attracting and selling to the general public, points to the way they are planning to go. A linear park with long lakes linked by inoperative sealed locks is the obvious future.

Make sure your phone stores GPS coordinates in the image files (if you have any kind of smart phone, it'll do this). I've been doing this for a few years now and although I have no reason for concern that I'm not moving enough, and as you say their logging system is ropey at best - I've requested copies of my sightings log and they often miss places I've been to, I'd rather I did my logging and be able to prove it too.

I try not to think of it as doing their work for them but it's my personal log as the CaRT logging doesn't go into the same detail as I do with my personal log and they certainly don't take photos of where my boat has been, so I do that to keep a record of places I've been to.

I think keeping a record of where u are with evidence could reduce the worry and associated stress. Just set aside any thought that its doing their work..what price Peace of Mind? Your lifestyle suits you and its helped you so just look at it as part of the package

I've kept a daily log for fifteen years.
It started off as just a memory/diary type record of our travels, but now I selotape timed and dated receipts, bus and train tickets etc. in there too. Corroborates my record of movement.
I don't believe it's paranoid, and it's nothing I worry about, but it is irrefutable proof of my boats movements should I need it.

How about carving your name into lock beams to prove where you've been?
