The sky fell on me last week. That was bad. Yes I can imagine. It comes from an old Gaelic saying, the only thing worth worrying about is the sky falling on your head. Or something along those lines, basically don't worry about things that probably won't happen.

I like to mitigate the risk of accidents and injuries.
I don't particularly worry about it and in case you are wondering I never wear a lifejacket when solo boating in any of the boats so we are not talking about risk aversion just bad design in narrow boat handrails.
Both my steel boats have tubular raised handrails but they also have 9 inch wide flat side decks so handrails are not of primary importance.
On a narrow boat the handrails are of primary importance as you can not walk along side deck without holding on. some designs of raised handrails are quite simply dangerous.

I'd still much rather have a tubular handrail rather than one of those stupid box section things that you can't hold onto.

They are fine if you never slip off the gunnel. You do get a more positive grip so its understandable to prefer them if you are worried about not having enough grip.
I find having less grip can help with the concentration.

It's fine, the darwinian effect will remove the aficionados of moulded box handrails so they will die out, along with the proponents.

Box section handrails also help with rigidification of the cabin.

Scooter tyres. Usually free, great against Storm Hannah and if you tie them up properly, you don't lose them!
