Has anyone tried using a robot vacuum cleaner on a narrowboat? I'm thinking of getting one, largely because it would be a bit like having a pet except I wouldn't have to pick its poop up. Or feed it. Can they find their way around a boat?

Can they find their way around a boat? I've heard that they can be quite useful for sending ashore with ropes to put on bollards whenever you're having difficulties with tying up your boat properly.

Do you have to take the motor out first?

I know of an occasion when one of these robots went rogue. It managed to get into a cat litter tray and then carried on moving around the house. Not a good sight to come home to.

Its going to be about as useful as my patented drone toilet which carries your solids away and drops it in a preprogrammed location.
The idea works but the thing will always run out of battery power at the wrong moment.

I am a little puzzled as to why you need a robot cleaner in such a small area......

My onboard inverter won't run a vacuum cleaner. I do have a generator on my mooring which will but it's too big to take away cruising, and a bit of a faff to set up as well as being incredibly noisy, so the boat doesn't get vacuumed as often as I'd like. I do have one of those hand-held ladybird sweepers which works, after a fashion, but that involves more physical input from myself than I can generally be bothered to provide. So the idea is that I can just charge up the robot and let it get on with stuff while I'm occupied elsewhere.
I used to have the perfect device for keeping carpets clean, it was called "a woman" but unfortunately it broke down.
