the use of the word 'civilised' is arguable. our society is apologetic, forgiving and PC. the only folk who don't figure in civilisation's conscience are the innocent victims.

The youths concerned won't be named- apparently one was 16, the other three were 15- but they will be known in the local area and I imagine they've pretty much trashed their life chances locally. I'd speculate that they aren't feeling too proud of themselves tonight.

Market Deeping is a regular one horse town and in common with many rural communities it seems that everybody knows everybody else, this spreads out to neighbouring towns and villages so yes by now most people know who the culprits are Phil

Quite amazing that three 15 year olds would be out at four o' clock in the morning. I think it's a fair guess to say they come from pretty dysfunctional families.

Well hopefully local justice will ensure they walk the walk of shame.. They should at least be made to clear up what they've done under the eyes of their parents and those of their victims

SWMBO always suggests the re-introduction of the stocks in cases like this.
the shame and misery of squatting in the town square for a day while the local community take their revenge on them is entirely appropriate in such a case.
there is no other punishment that the magistrates can hand down that would be as effective.
it would be nice to imagine the parents begging the police to keep the boys in the cells for 'protective custody', and the police responding by saying 'no, they must face the consequences of their actions within their local community'.

"The parents of three teenagers who deliberately trashed a model railway exhibition worth £30,000 have been ordered to pay compensation."
"Three of them were handed 12-month referral orders and their parents were also ordered to pay £500 in compensation."
What is a 'referral order'? Why not just cut their knackers off with rusty garden shears?
Why are their parents not ordered to pay £30,000 + compensation for the trouble? Talk about getting off lightly.
Or was it too harsh?

What is a 'referral order'? Why not just cut their knackers off with rusty garden shears? What happened to the "red hot mooring pins"?
