Spent another couple of hours at the boat yesterday, took carb off and dipped in ultrasound cleaner again, this time for half an hour. I'd read up and seen that it might need that long. It worked 90%, far better. The problem is with the "transfer jets" going from idle to full power. While waiting for it to cook I rand pacer marine to see if there is a service kit that might help. No but because its an inherent issue with blocked jets Honda have kindly dropped the price of a new carb to £110 +vat. The lad told me its cheaper to fit a new carb than pay an engineer to service and clean it at £50 hr. So I bit the bullet and ordered one. I then refitted cleaned carb and it was a lot smoother but not quite right. So I have a carb for spares.

Just wondering whether there's a fuel filter at all? If not tiny inline ones are available that you should be able to squeeze in somewhere. My old bike has rust inside the tank had no end of problems with the carb, fitting a filter solved the problem. Otherwise, I believe 'super plus unleaded' has less of the 'green' stuff in it than regular unleaded, this stuff tends to build up over time and could block a tiny jet.

I suggest you write to Honda's managing director in Japan and say that, as Japanese, they should be mortally ashamed to have produced such rubbish, where is their national pride? You could write to the Emperor too, to say you are disappointed.

There is an inline filter and a water trap. Fitting a new filter. The problem started when I connected the metal fuel tank, I hadn't realised how much water had condensed in it over winter, enough to fill the trap - which I didn't know was there, discovered it lately. I now know to empty and flush it when I do a service.

New carb arrived yesterday morning before we set off for the boat, swiftly fitted and normal service resumed. I intend to give the old one a long soak in the ultrasonic bath, see if I can clear the last bits of carp out of it.

Compressed air or a fine softish bristle should do the jets, the important bits. Or is the needle sticking maybe?

It's impossible to get to the transfer jets in the carb body, they are just holes in the casting. Honda say ultrasound bath only. I did try everything. Compressed gas can, carb cleaner squirted at the jets etc.
