by brother walked across below follys bridge. I went under Folly Bridge on Saturday but did not notice the depth there on the sounder. Not surprised if its 4 or 5 feet. it was 50 to 100 metres downstream. we were quite drunk at 3am well it was his stag do. and before there are questions we did not speed or crash as I was steering. even after a pub crawl a lockie said although slow it was the best entry into a lock he had seen all week. a lovely hot weekend during g&t and crates and crates of beer. no one had a fight while clubbing or sick and we did not upset any other boaters. we even sat on another boat drinking wine we were that nice and friendly. sorry, just a little fed up of the anti stag and hen do posts I see on the k&a Facebook page.

Quite unusual to see keepers on the locks at 3am

Yay! Another job knocked off the list! Water pump impeller replaced with a brand new one. Last done June 2018 in Sowerby Bridge. The old one had no tears under its vanes, and has spun round 7,640 million times to get us through to Skipton, Wigan, Penkridge and Stourport, and now to here - Kegworth in Leicestershire. By the way, a fox is the symbol for this county!

As this is a Thames topic I thought I'd put a picture up of an example of a nice quiet spot near Abingdon where I was situated last weekend on the yot Really pleasant bit of river. I do have the advantage of having a dinghy as well as a yellow solar electric floating beer drinking platform so can moor in inaccessible places and still acquire rations. There are shops in Abingdon. Photo in this instance was taken from the beer drinking platform. .

I can't see the picπ₯ abingdon is a great spot for a pub crawl. we sat by the square watching the Morris dancers. ETA I can see it in the quoted post, so all good.

I have occasionally moored Shapfell up like that or to a mudweight ...... in some ways it would be nice to have some sort of tender but it seems an awful faff for the very few occasions that it would be handy

I much prefer dinghies and canoes overall for messing about in but I don't like camping so require a cabin. I do long runs up the Thames in the yot but not on the cut. The dink goes on top of wheelhouse and the beer drinking platform goes behind. Doesn't cause any issues really.
It did occur to me the ideal vessel would be a 25ft demasted catamaran made electric. That would be a great boat for the river and the beer drinking platform (yellow electric canoe thing 18ft long) could be docked between the hulls !
Superb.

Shirley, you could do something with 2 canoes and a few planks? That would look too rough even by my standards and would be a nightmare in the wind. Quite fancy a Strider 24 cat. 24ft x 14ft2 GRP catamaran with up to 4 berths. .

Off to Homebase for 3 shackles and some blue string for our TWO anchors.
"How deep is the River Thames? In the estuary the charted depth (which can for most general purposes be considered as the depth at low water) is about 20 metres at its deepest."
Opposite Southend the charted depth is about 11 metres. Add about 5.7 metres to get the depth of water at MHWS and 4.8 metres at MHWN.
"At Tilbury the charted depth is about 9.8 metres. Add about 6.4 metres to get the depth of water at MHWS and 5.4 metres at MHWN.
At Woolwich the charted depth is about 6.5 metres. Add about 7.0 metres to get the depth of water at MHWS and 5.9 metres at MHWN."
We reckon we'll get 10 metres of blue string per anchor. We already have 4m of chain for each.
