Looks like I've shreded my drive plate between the engine and gear box . I'm not sure how this has happened it hasn't s topped working I've just noticed this when I was looking at the greaser.obviosuly I'll get a new drive plate, but what could have caused this?i dhave not want to fit a new plate and it happen again straight away, I did have to use a few more revs to get up the river this time but not outrageous amounts. i.imgur.com/269ZwOJ

Get in touch with R & D and discuss your options regarding damper shore hardness - they are helpful knowledgeable guys there. Our R & D plate on a 1500 BMC has done nearly 1100 hours and is almost as good as the day it was fitted 9 years ago. How can you see the drive plate to know its shredded? Engine? gearbox? flexible coupling? Clcik on the photo link.....

My mate John tried to chop up a log with his prop!! and that knackered his drive plate up so maybe something similar?

Or maybe misaligned engine/engine mount damage. If its on flexible mounts worth having a little butchers around. I expect it might be rigidly mounted in which case a little bit of misalignment could take it out quite quickly I would have thought. Eta kris didn't you have another drive line issue before? Can't remember but I think it might have been gearbox related. Thinking about peterboat 's comment is it possible the prop is too big?

It could quite easily have been something similar, there was a bang on the last river passage but it didn't sound that serious.

I don't think it's alignment it's been alright for nearly four years. No you don't remember right I haven't had alignment problems.it is a little bit over proper.

Well I suppose if its been alright but overloaded for 4 years it might cause premature failure. I thought you had previous experienced gearbox issues which was why I suggested it being over propped. It seems it is but you didn't

It seems it is but you didn't The initial breakdown that caused all the shit with cart and on analworld was gearbox related yes. But this is the whole new installation that I've been running for about four years now.

Will the engine rev up to its specified rpm on a run in deep enough water?

How often have u been changing the gearbix oil?! I should imagine like me he has never changed the gearbix oil. Changing the GEARBOX oil no matter how frequently has no bearing on drive plate wear.
