Andrew is quite right I have a two ton hiab on my boat, that I put on to take the old engine out and lift the new one in. It's been so handy that I haven't taken it off yet. It shouldn't be needed for this job though, hopefully I can slide the gearbox far enough back to get the drive plate off. I didn't know you had a hiab ..... I couldn't find one at a sensible price which is why I went for the chinese cheapo handraulics. Andrew, if I needed the crane to go in the engine hatch I would have to move it (the fixed base is just 4 bits of angle welded to the deck with 1" bolts to the bottom of the crane) which is not a major job. I think there are photos on here of my back deck with hiab. I can do similar with my hiab remount it around the boat, it's heavier though so not as easy to move.

Would it lift a Daewoo md136? 743kg aacccording to specs its quite a beastly unit to lift. I'd probably go for a bridge myself .

It's supposed to lift 1000Kg on short reach .... but I think you would need your fingers crossed. Anyway moot point as the whole after section of the engine room casing, Funnel etc would have to be cut off and before that a hell of a lot of wiring would need to be removed Changing the engine would be a dockyard and crane job, definitely not something to be done DIY. (fortunately I have a friend with a drydock )

I think it may be some time before the power unit in Sabina H will need replacing anyway.
Only a brief inspection but I had the impression it was not a Mickey mouse item.

I didn't realise there is an award, it's was just a matter of buying what was cheap and local. When I needed it, near skipton. The person I bought the hiab from dropped it onto my back deck for me.

As far as I am concerned having a HIAB or equivalent hydraulic crane unit on ones boat is incredibly cool.
Obviously as we are only internet acquaintances I might seem to be having a giggle but I am not.

I can safely say it could have done with a turbo!! if only for two minutes, it would have stopped my toenails from gripping the deck going through a bridge once! Other than that it is more than up to the job in no uncertain terms

There I was innocently thinking it might have been 11 months.
Has R&D been bought out by a Chinese consortium then?
