Is the Gov grant to the CRT papering over cracks? Or doing good? Maybe the Gov should reduce the grant and specify just a few ares where navigation should be possible.

Yes it is really. 99.9% of the population get nothing out of it and the majority of people who boat are not exactly on the bread line, while those working in the charity offices seem to do alright, like Jim they want ever more in order to increase their salaries. Charity my arse.

Charity my arse. bollocks. Don't misinterpret what I said. Staff in Arts based charities generally get less for a similar role in the commercial sector. Don't equate it with big national charities. Why can't the grumpy old cynics on here get it into their heads that not everyone is a greedy uncaring barsteward only interested in the next dollar and ripping people off. The world would be a worse place but for people who put in time and effort to help others. Perhaps you think everyone thinks like you do?

WE could go the whole way fill it in put roads or houses on it and nearly everyone would be happy " src="//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/superangry.png">

You have no respect for anyone elses views and routinely insult and misinterprete everyone, as you just did here, again. I fear you're just a bit too thick to see it so I expect you'll just carry on making a fool of yourself. For what it's worth I routinely help other people but unlike you I don't expect to be paid for it. Whereas you have convinced yourself that encouraging others to be an unemployable unfunny clown like yourself in exchange for wages is somehow helpful. No wonder the labour party has gone down the plughole, you are all deluded.

This puts me in mind of a "care" boat on the marina where troublesome teenagers are supposedly given a taste of a different life and I guess maybe their parents get a break. It costs the taxpayer/charities Β£9k a week to have a single teen on board. They never leave the mooring, boating it certainly isn't but no doubt it looks good when you write it down. Might as well be a prison cell. When one waves a knife around, the so-called carers retreat to the car park and call the police to deal with it, saying nothing to the neighbours who are mostly pensioners not equipped to deal with a knife wielding youth. All this kind of expensive papering over the cracks activity gets me down, while there is supposedly no money for social care for those who really need very little but get nothing. Don't tar all with the same brush. I wish we got that sort of dosh, per participant. Then we could pay staff better, commensurate with average wage for their role. For the record, this is pretty difficult to misinterpret, your only reaction to more income is not to do a better job, but to pay yourselves more. Case closed.

No Jim. I got a free ticket to glatonbury in return for providing some fire related entertainment, so we have something in common. I'm interested in how a circus makes ends meet and I admit this is because I've never found a circus entertaining and personally even if admission was free it wouldn't be for me. The question I should have asked is what percentage of your circus income is derived directly from paying punters? If I imply anything it's that you couldn't exist by merit alone. You have a misunderstanding of what we are about. We became a registered charity because the work we wanted to do, being "charitable" isn't financially viable, we are not a "normal" touring performing circus. While some of our work is professional training, people we have worked with have gone on to professional performance, much of our work is using circus and performance skills as a vehicle for personal and social development with a variety of ages and abilities. Check out the website. We've seen Jim in action. He is one of the few who actively put a lot into Society.

I agree with all this. Well written. 9k?! I'd like to see the breakdown of that sum!

Jim's not like that. He's not money-greedy. He puts a lot of effort into 'the right direction' in the matter of his 'social calendar'.

while I've never met Jim.
I'll say what he does for the local communities is a totally unselfish act and deserves recognition for what he does.
almost makes up for the constant rehashing of the same argumentsπ
