You certainly are not allowed to throw the contents of your bog into lakes or rivers in Finland.

And some of us can do this on inland waterways as well π thank bloody heaven π I'm glad to hear that we can empty our Thetford/Elsan as we chug down the Nene-Nen. I mean, if you can do it, why can't we? Still, rather disgusting. People swim in the Nene-Nen. Since when is a nasty chemical toilet dumped into the river remotely similar to a sea toilet flushed with river water?

Why don't you just throw poo at the swimmers, Gazza? Surely it amounts to the same thing? No, not at all similar. A decent macerator leaves no trace anyway. Old style manual toilets are a little less good at blending the turds into the rank soup that makes up the water but it will break down in time.

Its interesting that the EA allow discharge of toilets into the non tidal Nene but the PLA have recently banned it on the tidal Thames.
question for @gazza
Foxy suggests he can do his elsan in the river Nene. Is this right? I just wondered as there is an obvious difference between a tank with chem and a single direct discharge.

No he canβt, a chemical toilet is not a sea toilet. he can use it with no chemicals and suffer the wretched stench before he empties it if he likes though - no mention of not using a bucket and chuck it!

Would I be allowed to discharge this in one go into the Nene? That's a bit dodgy imo

The addition of A diverter valve and a seacock means your toilet is a sea toilet discharging directly overboard and would comply. This is a common setup (the same as we and mouse have) many older boats have no tank/diverter valve and are a sea toilet in the truest sense. Itβs pretty simple to figure out what a sea toilet is π€¦πΌββοΈπ§π΅οΈββοΈ

Itβs pretty simple to figure out what a sea toilet is π€¦πΌββοΈπ§π΅οΈββοΈ Yes I am well aware of the systems involved in boat toilets however you suggested if foxy did not add any chemicals then he would be at liberty to empty his cassette (a small portable holding tank) overboard. So I guess if you can lift and tip it then its OK is it? Doesn't sound very sea toilet like. I just wonder if the EA may have actually specifically forbidden emptying containers in to the waterway. Its quite important to know. I was interested you said it would be OK. Eta there is a high probability that anyone using a cassette or bucket system would not be emptying it after every use. Much more likely they would empty it when full which is a different story.

You can use a sea toilet - easy innit ππ
