Just a mention that the World Cup final is on C4 today. Obviously this won’t interest a certain icon of this forum.

So many things happened towards the end. When the ball hit Stoke's bat and went for 4 runs (total 6, they wouldn't have run the extras if it hadn't had gone to the boundary, out of respect). And then the catch when the fielder just touched the boundary rope before relaying it to another fielder. The confusion over the extra over, the England misfield, the run out at the end for a tie but England win because of more boundaries during their 50 overs.
Quite simply, the best, most dramatic finish in the history of sport.

I have only just caught up with the cricket. omg. what a finale.
I have witnessed some great sporting endings. that Troy Deaney goal against Leicester in the play offs. the Hamilton last lap overtake to win the championship.
plenty of last minute great escapes by saints.
But that is right up there with the best. 14 in the last over and a super over.
Just wish I could of watched it live

IMHO the kiwis had the moral victory, England's scoreline in the super over was largely the result of confusion over the rules. Why did the catch not count? The ball never touched the ground. As Ricco pointed out, why were 2 runs awarded when clearly only one run was achieved? At least NZ actually scored their runs through their own efforts.
Go on, England - hand the trophy over to the colonials!!
Much as I enjoyed watching the last 3 overs (that was all I watched), on reflection the game was spoiled by silly and confusing rules. It wasn't "cricket", it was just a rather odd but nail-biting spectacle.

Some say it should have been 5 because the batsmen (sorry, batters these days) hadn't crossed when the fielder threw the ball but others say 6 because they had crossed when the incident occurred i.e. the ball deflecting off Stokes' bat.

The phrase 'sour grapes' springs to mind.
We won, end of.
When ever England win anything at any sport there is always some so called 'pundits' ready to say we shouldnt have done.
