Anyway, you are probably a leyther sock puppet. What exactly is a sock puppet? Behind the windscreen of my bus last Christmas. He came with me to work today also.

I had a look myself, seems the wfc can't answer my question.

Bet they are not opened at 8.30.

Although the reason in the notice is “water resources”, the body of the text says this: Please be advised the following restrictions will be continued to be implemented on the Wigan Flight Lock 65 (Top of Wigan Flight) and Lock 85 (Bottom of Wigan Flight) to oversee safe use of the locks and to reduce the risk of vandalism; (my bold). It seems a dangerous precedent that CRT can decide to severely restrict a perfectly normal flight of locks for these reasons. But as far as I can tell, it is mostly only me that is concerned about it.

There is also the occasional "experienced boater" (Carla Boo) who decides he knows the flight better than anyone else and breaks off the padlocks. All tailgates after 69 left open and 7 paddles left up causing the staff to work an extra 90 minutes to negate the possibility of empty pounds.

Thats a pretty serious allegation to make in a public forum. And whilst it might very well be true, and in the eyes of some perfectly justifiable, can you provide some evidence of said criminal activity. I trust you realise that CRT are liable for any false or innacurate allegations you make. Being a volunteer doesnt absolve the trust of liability for your comments. You are still a representative.

Bet they are not opened at 8.30. Wigan flight was open at 0830 both times we went up & down. Perhaps Wigan Flight Crew should be put under observation.... like Jihadi Watch?

Can I ask, has anyone e mailed the C&RT office to enquire WHY the access times are what they are?
Neither presented an issue to us last year, although we did have to ring for the bottom lock to be opened as the 'assisted passage crew' had already set off (about 8.35am).
I'm assuming the times are not simply arbitrary ... their response could be enlightening.

All tailgates after 69 left open and 7 paddles left up causing the staff to work an extra 90 minutes to negate the possibility of empty pounds. Unfortunately there are the odd selfish and inconsiderate boater who does this sort of thing (leaving gates and paddles open I mean, not cutting the unnecessary padlocks off). This happens on all flights. Wigan is not special in this respect, just as it is not special in any other respect apart from its restrictions. Other flights cope, why can’t Wigan? Of course if the flight were properly maintained, these leaks wouldn’t exist and it wouldn’t matter if gates and paddles were left open. Maybe the volockies should spend less time shouting at boaters and more time carrying out maintenance?

They have obviously hurt your "we know best" feelings.

We would like to say a big thank you to the Wigan Flight crew; Peter, Joe, Paul and Joanne. They helped us up the flight and then, when we unexpectedly had to turn round and descend the flight, following a family bereavement, they went well out of their way to help us. What a great team! Such kind and helpful people. Wigan are lucky to have them. So it transpires that this text was posted on WFC facebook page. Clearly someone, presumably Leyther, has cut and pasted it onto here as a “new poster” with intent to deceive - passing it off as their own text. Par for the course, it seems. So I was correct in my supposition in post 2. No need to apologise mr nodogs.

Welcome to the premier boating, tree climbing, moped riding and abuse hurling site on the net timeout . Sorry for your loss. You may or may not know that the Wigan flight crew are not universally popular here, but in my view it's right to 'speak as you find'. I'm glad you received the help you needed. Rog Talking to thin air, I’m afraid.

It seems a bit daft to break off the padlocks given that the 'bw maintenance key' is easily available, if you ask around.
