What happened to the old practice of welcoming new members here, and then responding to how they post ?
The forum lately seems to be in a constant witch hunt, racing to be first to 'out' imagined sock puppets.
There will be individuals who employ sock puppets and are intent on mischief ... there always has been.
But surely they 'win' if we react in this negative way.

Rog When a genuine new member joins, they introduce themselves, tread a bit carefully until they find their feet, ask questions etc. When someone is “joining” who is an old hand at the forum, the behaviour is quite different, launching straight in with an attack or a known controversial viewpoint. In the case of the latest newbie, if they had said they had a good experience with the Wigan volockies that would have been fine. As I’ve said, whether or not one welcomes volockies is a personal choice. But they went too far saying “Wigan is lucky to have them” indicating we should all be grateful for their existence. I smell a rat at that point.

I think like you more and more members spend less time here than they used to, I know I do.

Wow Telemachus sorry ... I missed those rules for new members ... where are they If we think mischief is afoot, of course we can just sit back and watch how their posts develop. Each to their own, and there will always be disrupters ... I just preferred the more open welcoming approach. But nobody made me king ... yet Rog

No I didn’t, so why are you misrepresenting me? They aren’t rules, they are observed normal behaviour patterns.

But nobody made me king ... yet Rog Didn't you know, it's foxys forum. As it wouldn't have survived without all his single handed hard work.

i dunno whose genuine and who isn't so I'll give all the benefit of the doubt until posts prove otherwise...oh unless their user name is offensive then I won't bother

Patty, you're right, I'd give anybody a chance, often found so called trolls and/or sock puppets are in fact quite normal. Phil

Rog when someone joins a forum and their very first post quotes Bell Bottoms reply to you and then posts only either they are not a genuine first poster or they are a total twat that I have no desire to associate with. As you know I normally welcome new posters (the only reason I was suspicious of Bell Bottoms was because of Ross pointing out that the boat she used as an avatar couldn't be hers) when that was explained I then welcomed her (and in fact tried to get Ross to stop witch hunting) So yes I normally welcome and will always welcome new posters but not first post trolls or twats

It's mildly irritating when mischief makers turn up with the apparent aim of causing disruption, but generally they can't help but make themselves known ... it's part of the territory. I wasn't having a pop at anyone in particular ... just noticed there seems to be an air of cynicism and slight hostility in general, that hasn't been around since 2016 to any great degree. None of it's important anyway ... after all this is just a slightly more involved game of solitaire or space invaders Rog

I have been guilty in the past of wrongly calling out new posters as 'trolls' but I have also been on forums now long enough to see when its bleedin obvious.

Are you going to explain ... presume your point is important to you as you've made it twice. Rog
