It was the first of Hugh Easton's designs. Here is what he had to say about the next one... When I came to work on the design of Asplinβs Brouhaha I wanted to follow the same sweeping lines and integrated window layout of Lapwing but Harry would have none of it. In spite of my protests we finished up with those dreadful omnibus windows! Also, his wife had objected to the 45 degree angle of the forward screens of Lapwing saying that it was awkward for her to fit the curtains! I said I didnβt create my designs around curtains but it cut no ice

The first one is fantastic, what a shame he didn't stick up for himself second time around.

The first one is fantastic, what a shame he didn't stick up for himself second time around. He would of done, that Harry Lincoln, owner of the boatyard overuled him is not a great surprise, ultimately it ended up an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object, culminating with Hugh leaving Harry Lincoln's employment! mouse and I were fortunate to meet Hugh before he shuffled of this mortal coil π

I know I'm a philistine ... but I like them both ... no point being in a lovely spot if you can't see out clearly.

Management/owners thinking they knew best in all areas of manufacture destroyed a lot of British industry.

Looks like he was all set to do the swoop down towards the rear by the windows, then after they were made, was overruled on the cabin in favour of head room and cost. IMO the second one is tragic style-wise compared to the first but no doubt more practical and cheaper to make than a good looking one.

Management/owners thinking they knew best in all areas of manufacture destroyed a lot of British industry. You don't realise how accurate that statement is! Harry the owner and leading light of the Great Ouse would not entertain building a boat with a beam greater than 10'5" - this was so it could fit through the locks on his river. Hugh argued (correctly) that the biggest market lay in boats >11' beam, Harry disagreed and they went there separate ways, the rest, as they say is history!

That's beautiful ...but you'd want to be outside gawping at it Rog Β£15k and you can listen to it rot to your heart's content π³ I love it too, but it would take a brave soul and a big wallet to take her on - much like the old wooden Broads cruisers Funny to think many of those boats in The Three Tuns boat register would have been like Lapwing, Brouhaha and Farcet Fen, and many will have met their demise many years ago
