I certainly don't profess to have all the answers but I don't agree that so many will perish. Bear in mind how many people already die around the world through starvation and disease. I'm saying that if we allow the material, greedy, money based world pendulum to swing much further, we will ALL perish. Medicine often creates more problems than it solves. Look at antibiotics for example. Pesticides lower our natural immunity system to be able to cope with disease. However drugs and chemicals do make a lot of money for some.
I would probably die earlier if we went back to a simple, live off the land lifestyle, but surely it's more important we have a quality life than have longevity. In fact our obsession with keeping ourselves alive longer than we were designed to, just adds to the population growth and the destruction which goes with it.
There is no magic overnight fix but we can gradually pull the pendulum back by sharing the benefits of technology more fairly, educating everyone why we must work together to reduce childbirth and find a better way than money to assess our worth on this planet. Money is purely a method for the greedy to gain control, it's not control we need, it's the ability to unconditionally share our gifts and abilities with each other we really need. Money just gets in the way of that. Imagine how quickly we could improve things if companies shared their knowledge and resources rather than fight over profit margins.
For me life is all about the relationships and fun we have with our freinds and family. So many of us are compromising that basic need to fit in with a machine which is out of control. We weren't put here to suffer a neglected childhood, a mid life sacrificed just to pay off a mortgage and a later life to be bunged into a residential home away from our family.
We think we are educating the 3rd world, but there are many things we could learn from them.
Well I'm sure that's true but conversely some medicines are making us string out suffering longer than it would be if left to nature.
If I'm honest I'd probably take the option of medicine if only to extend my life, so I guess that makes me a hypocrite. It still adds to the population problem though.
I guess there will always be some probems we will never solve!
