What we probably could do is learn from the events of the past not keep recycling them.. All this talk does nowt..we needed a workable plan of action.... We cannot survive in Isolation..history should have taught us the benefits of treaties and co-operation with other countries..we need foreign investment(Yes Foxy even the Germans).... Whatever happens post Brexit is still a new chapter in a book yet to be written. I’m not a particularly patriotic person, but I think our Queen has done a pretty good job over the last 67 years. I do wonder sometimes what she really thinks about our politicians! Now that is something we will never know but it'd make a best seller should our Queen ever decide to tell.....

Whatever happens post Brexit is still a new chapter in a book yet to be written. For me it all comes down to the dangers of power/control being pushed too far away from the people. There are many examples throughout history, Hitler being one example. It’s a problem we will always have. We need strong leadership but we also need a mechanism to deal with things when it goes to their head. Democracy is not perfect (especially when it’s ignored by leaders and voters(!)), but it’s the best thing we have to keep our leaders in check peacefully. It’s also what prevented our country from a revolution 100-150 years ago. I’m not a particularly patriotic person, but I think our Queen has done a pretty good job over the last 67 years. I do wornder sometimes what she really thinks about our politicians!
Probably the same as the rest of us.

The point is that the vast majority of the population KNOW how democracy should work, it’s just that a small minority are using their power to undermine it and set us back 150 years Yes, that's otherwise known as parliament. Nothing has changed apart from you taking off your rose tinted glasses. So what system would you prefer?

As there is no chance of big changes, some form of proportional representation would be a step in the right direction. Some people argue that leads to a lot of debate and little getting done, but as I struggle to think of anything helpful that all powerful governments do, that would good IMO. Cutting out costly, politically motivated sweeping changes would save us a small fortune.

"In saying that, in terms of Brexit (for example), I don’t know why we even bother getting our knickers steamed over it and focus so heavily on what is and is not happening with it, as what difference does our opinion mean, or has EVER meant in the great scheme of things? Our opinions have been null and void from the moment we put the cross in the appropriate box on the ballot paper."
"If voting made a difference, they wouldn’t let us do it” – Mark Twain.
As true then as now."
