Tomorrow I've got to nip and get a few bags of Oxbow Excel to leave onboard, and about 60lts of diesel to leave the tank full. We'll be home from Saturday until first week of January so need enough coal on board to keep us going until we can meet up with Mark on Calisto. Unfortunately having to buy three or four bags at a time tends to mean we pay top prices, but it's unavoidable. I know a farm mooring near Ansty where there's a lorry driver who's out at work most days, leaving a huge pile of bagged coal on his mooring ... just saying Rog Hope to pass that way again before too very long …. …..will let you know how big the pile is by then! Hopefully yours met x

I use brazier on the barge. 10kg bags £4 each. Normally get 50 bags delivered then if still alive by the time it gets down to 10 get another 50. 1000kg usually covers a winter.
The launch has a refleks oil heater for constant heat and a little wood burner for the flames.
The yot just has a tiny little wood burner as it is usually inhabited only briefly and in the middle of nowhere where there is generally wood about.

I paid £420 for a tonne of Excel from Callisto. A tonne normally nearly covers my Winter use and I buy half-a-dozen or so more bags for the odd cold nights in April, May etc. I probably could use less than a tonne if I didn't keep the fire burning 24/7.

And it's that time of the evening again to snuggle under the quilt and sink into the world of very strange dreams. Been smoking again? Phil

I assume from your reply patty you're not at home but are house sitting. If it's family, get them phoned and get them to talk you through turning the heating on ... you can't stay in a house with no heating, and it's unreasonable for anyone to expect you to. Sorry if I have got this wrong. Rog

Sorry if I have got this wrong. Rog yes i am house sitting... escaping home tomorrow.. I'm not amused... I will be having a chat before next time...I have 3 more weeks pre xmas..one in Oct, one in Nov and one in Dec so summit has to be sorted. At home I have heat and use it...I spent to long in Horror house in damp and cold before Rayburn refurbished to go through that again. I did look at the heating system here but its a big old house with large rooms and tall ceilings. Tried to get the gas fire on but it wouldn't and I couldn't suss out the other controls.

Phil It's daughter in laws house.... apparently previous owners spent 2k on heating bills a month and I think she's decided to keep it off till she feels absolutely nec..OK for those who work all day and away from the place until late evening. I am going to ensure that before next time something is done.
