Haven't you got a kayak to paddle ? Rog Bit windy and rainy today but if one passed it would be more fun to watch its progress than a bunch of blokes kicking a ball into touch to gain territory.

It's not compulsory you know, but I enjoy it. It's a very honest game in it's physicality, and has positions to suit all shapes and sizes. Personally I prefer a game where men spend eighty minutes pretending they're not hurt ... to one where they spend ninety minutes pretending that they are Rog

The argument I always heard was that football players are so toned and so fit they are very prone to injury.
I can't compare myself to that but I must admit having played a lot of football that it does hurt. A stamp or a kick in the right place does have short term pain.
However i think most of it is gamesmanship, trying to win that free kick or get a player booked. I'm glad to say that's not in rugby

They tried to improve the game, stop the boring kicking for territory, by introducing the league version. Unfortunately this is still crap as they still hoof it down the field, but wait for the 6th tackle.
If kicking the ball was banned, rugby might just be a half decent game.
I'll give rugby its due though. It's nowhere near as bad as hockey where the greatest 'skill' appears to be to whack the ball against a defender's legs in order to get penalty corners.

If the game's too intelligent and tactical for you, just stick to soccer ... it's good to know your limitations Rog

Have you ever played hockey? No but I've suffered watching it on telly. Actually maybe I should re phrase, hitting the ball as hard as possible against a defender's legs is probably a tactic, rather than a skill.

Its actually a very fast paced, skillful game. But then its easy to make judgements with out actually knowing anything.

Problem with ice hockey is that on TV it's almost impossible to follow the puck, I'm guessing it's much better in the flesh.

There used to be some decent punch ups in ice hockey back in the day.

Huge ice hockey fan ... used to have season tickets at Sheffield Steelers upto disappearing onto the boat.
All the aggression and competitiveness is between the players not the fans.
Jane and I used to go to away games following the rugby (Titans) and hockey (Steelers) and always enjoyed good friendly banter with fans of opposing teams ... and a pint because as 'grown ups' we were allowed to drink at the games too.
A pity all sports are not so.
But I do understand some people don't like rugby, and that's fine ... just a strange thread to visit to say so.
