Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Like I said I'll post pics as I go along but it's gonna be a slow process. Plan to raise the roof between 150 and 200mm. Can stand up throughout the cabin area (5ft 10in) but only just, so once the floor is in and the roof lined it would be too low. Trying to add as little as possible to not ruin the lines. Leaving the foredeck as it is It can be done with out ruining the lines, I’ve seen a few. Are you doing the work yourself?

Yeah me and a couple of friends are going to give it a go. There are 2 full width opening's in the cabin roof so the roof is essentially split into 3 parts. First 2 should be relatively straight forward. Need to hire some stuff in for the 3rd section which is the biggest part at the back. Plan to tack weld some acrow props in place inside and some steel angle guides in the corners. Plasma cut the first section which is about 1.25m long lift then weld in 5mm plate and extra steel angle. Will use hydraulic props for the rear section. Will post some pictures.

Hello all, was just doing a bit of a google search for window inspiration and a pic i clicked on brought me to this thread. Then i spotted a picture of me on my shabby old barge whilst moving it from Northwich to its current resting place at Bingley! For those that are interested its a Skutsje which was built in 1913 in Kootstertille in Friesland. Ive just recently started the renovation. Will post some pictures once i start to see some visible progress, currently taking the bilge back to bare metal and treating then raising the roof slightly. That sounds like an interesting project Matt, I would love to know more details and the history of your boat, if you know about that. www.skutsjehistorie.nl/scheepsbouw.php?id=73Your Skutsje was most likely built by the " van der Werf" yard, of which you can read the history here, sadly only in Dutch, but Google can do the translation for you. The Google translation doesn't always translate very good if it's something technical, but you'll get at least already a better idea of the story, unless you're familiar with the very strange Dutch language. Good luck, and let us hear more please, Peter. just got round to checking this out Peter. Great site for info. Did quite a bit of searching as I have very little history of the boat but seems you are right. It is on the summary list as been built in 1913 by joon molles van der Werf and was originally named either eben haezer or de hoop (the hope) there's 2 entries for some reason 👍

In my limited experience, purely from observation, quite a lot of Dutch barges were given the same names as others.
I have my own suspicions about this that it could be a marketing strategy where a boat which no longer exists has its well documented history attached to another boat which does still exist and is given the same name. To make it easier to sell.
This could just be my conspiratorial mind working overtime.
Selling boats out of Holland to the UK does seem an interesting business.

The name of your boat when first named was "EBENHAEZER" when registered in 1914, when the boat was sold in 1932, the new owner changed it's name to "DE HOOP", the boat was sold again in 1978 and became a pleasure boat then, renamed "NIEUWE ZORG" which is the last registered known name. With a bit of luck you should be able to find all of the old Meetnummers (numbers of measuring) somewhere at the bow chiseled in. As "EBEN HAEZER" the number was : L 1334 N As "DE HOOP" the number was : L 2305 N As "NIEUWE ZORG" the number was : G 13806 N This is still the same boat that changed names with the new owners, and Andrew's fantasy stories are good for someone that wants to write a book full of spooky theories, that have nothing to do with reality. Success with the job, Peter.
