They can start their own electric car making plant in Sunderland if they want work and a 'clean environment'. Or they could make bicycles or something. So they got into bed with the shifty Japs... and are now disappointed because Nissan 'have a headache' Where is Nissan moving its operations to? If there is no work in the UK it is because the country is overpopulated. Having more and more children, and taking in all illegals who have come over from France (who then start having more and more kids)... well.. what can one say?

"Alternator has shit itself. Nissan spare parts want $1240 for a new one Local auto electrical shop want $290 for a new bosch with 2 yr warranty. Are Nissan kidding themselves. Spare parts bloke told me they had never sold one, I’m buggered if I can work out why."
"Injectors $1200 each (common rail) Nippon $300 (without the Nissan box)"

"I remember one discussion around the Nissan car plant in Sunderland (North East England).
After the Economist Intelligence Unit described it as the most productive car plant in Europe it was pointed out that what had changed compared to other UK plants was not workforce but the management."

Not confined to Nissan, you even see it with boat engines, so in the context of a discussion about Nissan's Sunderland plant, completely irrelevant.

"the decision to build the Qashqai in Britain had been contingent on a so-called “soft” Brexit that included a smooth transition."
How arrogant! And just who was Theresa May to promise anything of the sort to Nissan? Lying through her yellowed teeth.

"Only a complete idiot would blame this on Brexit its a worldwide trend. Equally only a complete idiot would try and claim that Nisson will not consider Brexit uncertainty and potential tariffs into the EU when rationalizing their EU production. Alternatively they may take the view that there will be a post Brexit boom and everyone in the UK will want a new Nissan." www.rollonfriday.com/discussion/nissan-cutting-12500-jobs-worldwide

Well if you understood the manufacturing concept of 'just in time' you would understand exactly why that is the case.

The Japanese were very cruel to British PoWs in WW2, so why are the Brits sucking up to them in the first place? It's quite disgusting. Grubbing for the Yen.
I suppose workers booted out of Nissan can get themselves down to Wetherspoons and cry into their cheap beer. It will last longer with added tears.

Precisely why they don't want the additional burden of borders with frictions and checks, both of which cause hassle and bring additional costs, why have the aggro if you can just base production in the EU without the UK? It doesn't make business sense. I expect Vauxhall production to go the same way and actually as a brand probably disappear all together within 5 to 10 years. (Just the Opel brand to survive.)

In case it has escaped your notice the people running Japan as a country and Nissan are not actually the same people who ran the the POW camps. Much like Nazi Germany things have move on a tad. Hence why the Brits the French and the Dutch by BMW's and Audi's in droves. And of course why the (BMW) Mini is made here (for now).

But I was once in a conversation with a very nice Japanese girl who posed the question 'what do you know about Japan' and apart from 'great motorcycles' all I could think of was really bad stuff like how the Japanese government has never acknowledged the crimes committed against allied P.O.W.s and the failure of the culture to address its rampant paedophilia.

I've read about how the Japanese (those alive today!) cheat on their quotos for 'scientific research of whales' (ie. eating them). I wouldn't trust them much. If they are such an honest race, how come they allow their own mafia to carry on as they do? They are also very nasty to those they do not consider pure Japanese, such as the Koreans who may have lived in Japan for many years (third, fourth, fifth generations... even more).
We know a few Japanese, they seem to have all been OK, and it feels safe to wander the streets of Japan, but I can't help feeling they are still smarting and would love to get their mitts on some nukes. They were a bit sneaky with Pearl Harbour, eh, just turned up without warning. Untrustworthy and dishonourable.
You have to take people as they come. How about the UK teaming up with Japan properly after Brexit? Both countries have know-how and intelligent people. The Japanese have a similar sense of humour to the Brits, too. It could be a good combination. Also both countries are in the doldrums with China having swiped the manufacturing and markets from both countries.
Anyway, shouldn't we all be glad a combustion-engine car company is closing? Isn't it all green electric cars the future? Powered by windmills.

You're behind the times. The Japs have re-started commercial whaling. You are right about some elements of the government wanting to re-arm though. Following the Japanese surrender in 1945, the constitution was created to include the notion that Japan would never go to war again. Since that time, Japan's armed forces have operated on a strictly defensive principle. However in the face of increased posturing by China, some have changed their perspective.
Its funny how you can condemn an entire culture for racism while spouting xenophobic bullshit of your own in almost the same sentence.

Car companies have been moving out of the uk for years, it's nothing new.
Brexit is a very convenient excuse at the moment.
Considering they have no idea what will happen until the deal/no deal is confirmed.
