I've been on and around boats for 25 years but never seen a household bog until I bought the latest boat.
It's a 1980s "Shires" blue ceramic suite with a low profile raised cistern. It works. Got a U bend so no smells and it discharges directly to a holding tank. So much better than a "dump through" as the u bend prevents the smells.
I always assumed this would not be feasible on a boat. I guess the main problem is the high water consumption to push a shit round a U bend.
A problem both for domestic water supply and holding tank capacity.
On this boat there is a sea water feed as well as a separate fresh water tank and a pump to fill the cistern for the flush. No chain on it.
Clever bit of work really but I guess it will fill the holding tank quite fast.

Broads cruisers have them as well, and yes they use lots of water and fill up the tank very fast

This boat has a high pressure suction pump with a hose and an adjustable nozzle so you can fire the contents at irritating other boaters.
I think it's probably old fire brigade gear.

Hmmm
Old style flushable toilets use about 17 litres of water per flush.
Modern Cassette type toilets have a holding tank just above 17 litres of water.
Verey glad I don't need to empty the cassette every time I flush.

Yes but it's a blue ceramic suite. Ceramic I tell you !
I don't think it's 17 litres maybe 10. I experimented with emptying water from a 20 litre barrel into the pan and it used about half of it to successfully pass the waste through the U bend.
So direct the contents to a 50 litre beer keg and you get maybe 4 or 5 days before a visit to the elsan. Mount a pump on top of the keg and transport it the the elsan with a pram.
This is assuming the vessel occupier is of the single male persuasion.

Definitely. Its aquamarine blue. Real work of art. Not even just any old blue then … aquamarine is a great shade. Hope the water consumption doesn't mean you can't use it as you'd like to. met x

It's nice to have a proper blue colour to be honest.
The fact of sitting on the bog having a shit with a view out of the wheelhouse door onto the beautiful water landscape is a bonus. And if the view is displeasing you simply close the doors and operate the battening down levers to keep the baddies out.
This boat needs to be in an art gallery. No kidding.
Water consumption by toilet is not a problem. The heavy duty burner will deal with any excess products no problem anyway !
The boat is a philosophical journey exploring what it is to be a human. Break down every activity you perform in life into its constituent parts and solve the individual problems. Live in the smallest possible space while retaining recognised creature comforts like being able to stand up, sleep, eat, defacate, wash and keep warm without problems. And twin diesel engines and lifting gear to boot.
It's seriously wicked.

It's rather clever.
It just seems impossible to do what has been done. Full headroom shower, household toilet, full headroom wheelhouse full size sink 2 ring cooker with oven, large capacity (takes 18 inch long sticks vertically and 10 inch horizontally) custom made multifuel stove, and a full headroom (6'4) sleeping cabin in the forecastle which can sleep 3 people.
It's remarkable.
You can have the fire going hot enough to keep the wheelhouse very warm overnight to prevent condensation then you retire to the sleeping quarters which are lower down so you are much cooler but still heated.
It's better to sleep in cool conditions than in a hot cabin.
And the whole thing is lined out in very well finished pine T&G and insulated with rockwool.
There is a hatch in the sleeping cabin which opens into a large bow locker where the anchor gear is kept. So you can have the lids of the locker open, hatch to sleeping cabin open and sleep under the stars but if it rains it doesn't fall on you it goes in the anchor locker which is drained.
Another bonus is it has previously had a BS certificate from two different examiners last one expired 2018. Last CRT license 2015 when boat was hauled out and stored on hardstanding.
Comfortable individual seating in wheelhouse for 3 people.
The list of good design features is endless.
