Income tax is for the workers not the owners of businesses. Owners pay capital gain tax on their share dividends.

I reckon their founder Gail Bradbrook is a right old sort. There's probably not a great deal we'd agree on though.
Gail, if you're reading, you're welcome aboard my boat any time. I've always got rum, and you'll love my furry friend.
Just another old slag with a ring through her nose. Thats rude... just saying

Income tax is for the workers not the owners of businesses. Owners pay capital gain tax on their share dividends. Owners of businesses that are sole traders or partnerships pay income tax like everyone else. Companies pay corporation tax on their profits. Shareholders pay tax on their dividends at 7.5% at the lower rate, 32.5% at the higher rate, but there is a tax free allowance. Shareholders pay capital gains tax on any profit on sale of shares, again, there's an annual tax free allowance.

I can tell you as MD I only paid myself and wife up to our tax allowance and took the rest in dividends. There was no NI to pay at this level but guess what - we were credited towards pension entitlement as if we'd paid it. Interestingly when Gordon Brown was chancellor he gave me an extra £10K tax free CT and the rate cheaper than PAYE plus of course no NI on dividends - employers or employees so there's another 20-30% saved off the tax bill. We even received tax credits because of our low PAYE income. All above board, I used a large firm of accountants to sort it all out and did not suggest any of it, it was "just what everyone who could, did". PAYE eh? Another smack in the mouth for the less fortunate. I remember Leon Brittan once sneering at people on "fixed incomes" as if they were less than human, I thought he was going to be physically sick. Not me of course, I'm a socialist like Jim.

I'm not a socialist, though I did always pay the going rate + 50% to my chaps - one even asked for a wage cut! Share it about when the going's good - is that socialist? They always did excellent thorough work so I thought it was a capitalist decision but maybe a bit of both, life is so confusing.

That view would think that your going was always good, regardless of the reality, and if you didn't permanently share out more you were a selfish person, incompatible with a modern progressive equitable society. If you went bust they would shrug their shoulders, blame it on capitalism.

Sorry about the language but it's a strong point. He's as hypocritical as the rest of ER. I'd have more respect if he just said fuck the world.

Flew over Windsor Castle, saw it quite clearly from above, and the Thames snaking hither & thither, and Hertford and Ware and Stanstead Abbotts. But not Harlow. And then it was cloudy. Caught a glimpse of Terschelling, one of the Friesian Islands.
3 hours at Copenhagen now. Off in search of a prawn baguette.
