The opening post was prompted by reports of racist chanting at an England international football match, sufficient to pause the game on two occasions. The contrast with the international crowd behaviour at RWC in Japan was unavoidable. Some people will behave badly at whatever event. I wasn't seeking a 'rugby good football bad' discussion, just wondering why football of all sports has become the victim to these people. Rog I know you weren't Rog, I guess I imprinted my own thoughts onto your thread, sorry about that. But I reckon there is easily enough subject-material for a thesis. I also expect its a well-ploughed furrow though. Its easy for me to criticise, as stated I have no interest in either sport. I hope the yobs don't ruin your pleasure for long.

I think the biggest difference between football fans and rugby fans is that the former sees their club as part of their identity, their culture, their very being. The latter on the other hand enjoy the day out, the banter, a few beers, a chance to see a new place maybe, but feel little passion for their chosen club. To be fair there are some really good football clubs/fans. As a saints fan I love away days. It's great to go to a local pub to the ground and have a laugh with the other teams fans. rarely do we have trouble. Unless Pompey are around. Last time man u were down here we all went to the nearest wetherspoons and had a big sing off. All clean fun.

That's great and exactly what sport is intended to do ... draw people together.

Don't worry ... Mr Stabby has a delusional price to pay for his drug fuelled youth. Rog
