I don't do Facebook either ππ The goba moorings are superb, some are in the middle of nowhere - often you will be in magnificent solitude. There are a fair few good EA ones, add in the GOBA ones and you will never be stuck for a brilliant mooring. If you don't have a dog a must do mooring is to drop a mud weight into Wissington Mere on the Wissey and bob about under the stars π We keep up our GOBA membership even if we don't get across (like last year π€π π€¦ββοΈ) it's a very small sum of money for such a huge benefit to all boaters π Sounds perfect. The thought of mooring with a mudweight under the stars has driven us both to another drink..roll on Spring. Thanks for the help. I spent a couple of nights to a mud weight on the Wissey and it really is fantastic, just off the reed beds as the sun disappears, listening out for a bittern. I spent several months exploring the Gt Ouse and tributaries when I was recuperating, it is a truly magical area

I did the Gt Ouse as far as St Neots in 2002 during the manic traveling phase when my mum also had a narrow boat and we covered a lot of the inland waterways. We did not spend a great deal of time hanging around there but did do Brandon creek in her boat. We also went to Cambridge with both boats.
I could date it accurately as it was at the time of the horrible Soham child killings. Slightly nasty way to remember it but there we are. These things happen.
It definitely seemed like an area worthy of further exploration. Nice little River the Gt Ouse.

Β my HGV licence expired yesterdayΒ 5 years' warning ! ? ! Sept '13 for my first 'professionally competent' bus licence & digi-card for tacho after the EU-directive scam came along, second set I got Sept '18. Of course I am a complete incompetent, but I haven't revealed this to my employerΒ isn't it just a case of counting the segs on your arse.

@froggy
To be honest it was never really my scene. I like living on a boat and will always do this but extensive traveling doesn't interest me much at all.
The only reason I got to see so much of the canal system was because of my mum who was on a mission and it worked out well for me at the time to go boating with her as we each had our own 55ft narrow boat. Mine had a Russell Newbery hers had a Beta BV1505.
We were proper loonies at the time. What a silly life to have lived.
Living on a narrow boat from 1994 to 2008 (20 years old to 34 years old) drove me round the bend. Not something I will ever recover from.
Happy days though !

Without moving, I can't see the appeal of living on a boat ... but we're all different.

Rog During the time I've had Sabina H she hasn't moved a lot, mostly just short runs apart from the relocation to the North (and last year all my plans went to pot and even when she was off her mooring in Beverley it was only for a month and most of that time she didn't move) but there is no way would I give up living on a boat (I will have to be carried off, either kicking and screaming or quietly in a wooden box)
