Battery circuit and isolator switches

I think so yes as the bloke who I bought the boat off (not the person who did the diagram) said I start with both on position 1 then once running put the left hand isolator on position SP1 which is labelled D/S.

When I do this I get charge amps on starboard engine and the Ind lamp goes out on port engine but no amps show up. I know both dash ammeters are working as they both show negative amps when heater plugs are on prior to starting.

It seems likely that the circuit is designed to prioritise engine starting as despite the boat being fitted with every conceivable piece of equipment there is no separate generator. Fortunately I have a nice kwakker GA1400 already

Very unclear drawing, doesn't help that as chewy says it misses out lots of info. 

I also think that it maybe drawn wrong

if they have used the convention of the centre wire to each switch is the wiper then with both switches in position 1 Port engine will be started by battery 2
 
(the middle one of the three in the  drg) the starboard engine will have no connection

The other two batteries are linked together but not connected to either starter motor

either the instructions you have been given are wrong or the drawing is ....... or both

In position sp/2 on both isolators both engines will start from battery 3 (furthest right on the drg)  the other two batteries will be disconnected.

in position both on both isolators all the batteries are in parallel and are all connected to the starters

doesn't make a great deal of sense to me, I can't see any advantages for the way it is connected

I think you are going to have to do a bit of cable following to try and work out what he was up to

do you know which battery is the domestic ? 

Its the boat`s original name.

I believe name was chosen so it fits on a car number plate.

However bloke I bought it off renamed it.

I have dine the math and it is actually 50 50 whether you get bad or good luck from renaming.

Great boat name for a beauty of a boat.

There's a narrow boat at Braunston called Rocinante on a similar theme.
