Anyway ive been thinking about a manifesto and this is what ive come up with. Its got a bit complicated though as im a member of NBTA they have somone else who is thinking of running who i have to negoiate with. I might just unjoin nbta if it becomes an issue. Feel free to post comments amendments to this draft manifesto, id love to hear your thoughts. Hello my name is kris Nadin, i live aboard an 86 year old ex working boat that im doing up slowly. Ive been on the water and worked on the water in various ways over the years. Including being a tug skipper on maintenance contracts, ive been a commercial fisherman and ive crewed on yatchs. Ive even worked for crt before now. Im a member of NBTA that i got involved with because of the great work that they do on behalf of elderly and disadvantaged boaters, which is something i feel strongly about. I feel that boaters interests are not being represented or put forward at the moment. The issues that concern me most are the removal of facilities, the continued maintenance issues and the progressive handing over of public assets to the private sector. Id like to see the continuation of the waterwways as a navigable network, and would work to make sure that our generation isnt the one that witnesses the demise of that. Regards kris Please remember that its a first draft. I will support you, and promote you on my Facebook groups, though I am also supporting Helen Bilbie. We need some genuine applicants, and it would be good to get rid of the two faced Stella Ridgeway. hi-in.facebook.com/canalrivertrust/posts/we-have-just-come-up-the-macclesfield-locks-and-there-is-a-problem-with-the-top-/1052453078174942/avalontwo.simplesite.com/422255051en-gb.facebook.com/stellaboatersrep/www.nabo.org.uk/index.php/issues/nabo-chair/819-in-the-chair Stella Ridgway. 'Two faced' according to our latest member. Perhaps she turned him down?

I wouldn't just write 'NBTA' as nobody knows what that means.

And the reality is that not everybody understands what NBTA are and do and calling themselves bargee travellers has negative connotations for a proportion of boaters who might otherwise vote for you. Why even mention them?

Tell them you're in the IWA, kris. That will impress them more! Oho - annual membership fee time for us coming up in December!

I think if people understood the amount of work NBTA do with elderly and disadvantaged boaters, then they wouldn take the piss. There is no other organisation doing it, the reason crt have a welfare officer or even consider welfare issues is because of NBTA.

Yes I think I would skip the NBTA bit. You could instead mention something about an interest in boater’s welfare without mention the NBTA.
When you have got it reading how you want, I’d be happy to spell / grammar check and maybe may it flow better. I promise not to insert too many Latin phrases.

Yes but you are now a politician so the truth doesn’t matter, just what is necessary to get elected!

the reason crt have a welfare officer or even consider welfare issues is because of NBTA. Umm, not true. John sloan and myself introduced the need to CRT for the welfare officer. Initially we were ridiculed by the nabo and iwa, but eventually they and others jumped on the bandwagon. We were even offered the option of delivery, through Jenny Dibsdall and the waterways chaplains. We felt it was better to bring in an independent, and crt consequently put out a vacancy notice.

I think as at present im a member of NBTA it would be better to declare it. Depends on how you declare it. If I get the impression I am voting for you as an individual who happens to be a member of NBTA, then I will vote for you, however if I feel I am voting for you so that NBTA effectively have a seat on the council then I won’t. Added - I think you will find it difficult to identify as NBTA without giving the impression that it is them I am actually voting for.

Yes i can understand that, obviously im standing as an individual not as a representative of NBTA. But i can see how that wouldn't be clear.Give me a day or so and ill sort it out, i really feel to stand for the council and give it a good go.
