I've just watched him on bbc 4 - he's doing the same routes as we did earlier in the year... keep an eye out for Ellis up the Caldon or on his next section lol.

I like the way he's kept his personality ... despite the constraints of Auntie Beeb (no Pub of the Week etc.) and the speed at which the programme has to rush along. He's a very natural film maker and very obviously loves boating ... good and bad. Looking forward to the next four Rog

I was watching Robbie's videos on YouTube about 2.5 years ago, I came across him when he was going through Blackburn and was a-fearing the local populace. Always in a hurry: "Let's crank it!"

He is obviously too young to have retired. [ Why do you say that ? I retired in 1992 when I was 18.

If you look at his most recent youtube blog @missstress he explains (without precise details) how he finances his life style.
I'll see if I can put a link up.

95% of people who had my circumstances would have bought houses and got jobs It takes all sorts. Anyway yes I have put too much personal shit on here mixed up with some story telling and lame attempts at humour Obviously nobody is going to expose their whole life story on an internet forum. That would be silly. I can see what's happening here and yes it will be successful

Speaking as someone who had to pay towards a parents funeral, the idea of inheritance to a degree that not working is a consideration (at whatever level) is extraordinary.
Not wishing to get into anyone in particular's personal life, but is that the experience of others here ?
For my part, working was not an option ... it was the ONLY thing.

Rog My mum’s house is worth a fair few quid, but the trouble is she hasn’t died yet and I’ve already retired!

We are all different from very different back grounds. I worked hard for most of my life but had to take early retirement at 50 due to the Mental Health collapse..told not to work again I have a pension plus some inheritance from dad but lot of that went on horror House and family issue.

I suppose working/retiring depends so much on if your "work" was also something that you enjoyed doing. I was fortunate that when I started my own company, I thoroughly enjoyed what I was doing (not that there weren't days that had me tearing my hair out) but 95% of the time I looked forward to going to work. If things had happened differently I would still probably be running it. (As it is, I need to be doing things and I am fortunate that I still have skills that people need and want, although the drive is not financial necessity it probably is a necessity for my physical and mental health)
I was talking to someone yesterday only a couple of years younger than myself who is just beginning to retire. He was telling me that his father tried to talk him out of the life he chose offering far greater money with another career. He went his own way taking on a massive loan and working hard and never making a great deal of money but being totally happy with his life and, the same as myself, looking forward to work each day. His son is taking over from him, again he could go a different way and earn more but he is choosing the lifestyle over money.
