I wonder if it was insured? I would have thought a little safe that can be opened quietly and it seems fairly quickly is not a secure or fit place to keep £50M worth of jewellery. I can see an interesting discussion with the insurance co..........

I think in all likely hood it was an insurance job. It sounds like they knew exactly where to look for what.

on my home insurance I am asked to provide details of any valuable items. I have a lot of art on the walls. why would I want to put on record what I have so that any Tom, Dick or Harry at the insurance company can copy the information and pass it on to the dark side? as a result I work on the basis that it will never be stolen by casual burglars because they have no idea what it is worth. if the house burns down then I won't get compensation for the art, but I'm prepared to take that risk.

It's more likely that this is one of the staff involved, who knows where the safe is in a 55 room house. Unlikely to be an insurance salesperson. Hope you don't have a fire or other catastrophe.

TBH didn't consider that but then I no longer have anything of real monetary value...I am attached to a few 'inherited' items that my gran acquired and a collection of Swarovski pieces that my dad brought me...no cash could ever replace them anyway, their value is pure sentiment. My sis says ne'er do wells wouldn't be interested in that sort of stuff. I constantly declutter and get rid..aiming for a minimalistic easily packable lifestyle.

Been trying that ...... loads gone ...... but there still seems to be far too much stuff left (I don't think it is possible to get rid of "things that might come in useful" if you own a boat) some personal things though are hard to get rid of .... even though you know you should ........ slowly, slowly.

Well TBH I really don't think it hurts to keep some personal stuff as there are a few things I will keep...they define who I am and they r stored.... When I cleared out granny glads there was some lovely finds that really let me see the who she had been in her youth. Little sis kept all the possible sellable stuff and all I had was a few old papers which for me was social history. Nick nacks, ornaments etc are not important.

I don't think it is possible to get rid of "things that might come in useful" if you own a boat Every time I throw something away which I have previously found and considered might be useful it becomes useful within about a day of being binned. It always happens. It could be sitting there in a box of junk "just in case" then finally cleared as obviously no use then the next day it is exactly the item needed for some random job on the boat. Very odd and quite irritating.

I haven't had any kids so regardless of my personal consumption during my life, I'll cause less damage than someone who has, even if they drive an electric car, take a train to Spain for their holiday rather than flying, and carefully sort all their rubbish into the various recycling bins. Having said that I shouldn't really give a shit about the future of the human race/ planet but perhaps strangely, I do.
