Who'd have thought it?
The lady was a keen boater.
Regularly seen afloat at society gatherings such as Henley Regatta and, later, the Wetherspoons.
There are times when one has to be a lady, and in hot weather like the summer of 1976 it was essential to use some sort of shading apparatus to stop the sun getting to you while out in the skiff or punt.
And thus the lace parasol was seen as most appropriate for an up and coming world leader destined to take the country forward into a wonderful future of optimistic virtue and beautiful orchards full of wine and pleasure, luxury yachts and shit loads more money. The beautiful shadows cast by the lace in full sun can hide the nasty things at least a little bit.
Prospective buyers are encouraged to shine a bright light on the parasol and watch the beautiful shadows. They are beautiful. LED lights by appointment only as bright filament bulbs may damage the delicate fabric and veneer of this beautiful item.
The symbolism is a joy. One little lace parasol with nackered stitching = an achingly beautiful story of a lost world of pleasure.
Genuine reason for sale.
The beautiful blonde boy child is in need of a new parasol for himself. And a better hair dresser. The story goes back a long way. A wonderful sunny day at Henley many moons ago he was in a punt. Sun was bearing down (as it does) but he had no shade. Hair was bleached beyond redemption.
For this to ever happen again would be uncountenanceable.
Funds must be raised in order to provide him with a suitably high quality, but new, sun shade unit fit for the modern age.
The option of refurbishing the original parasol with a view to using it as a state sponsored masterpiece was considered however it is beyond its sell by date. Offers invited from museums and historians.
Fortunately the original design blueprints still exist in a vault so the replacement, while being more technologically advanced, will be more or less identical to the original, beautiful parasol.
We are looking for funds here so any generous donors or clever opportunists are always welcome to have a look.
